How To Obtain a certification.

Voluntary certification through the National Institute for automotive service excellence is possible if you work as an automotive technician or in a service position within the automotive industry.Your special skills, attention to quality, and professional experience are reflected in the ASE certification.It's worth it to get the certification.

Step 1: Become a technician.

You have to have at least two years of experience working in the industry to get the certification.If you have secured employment, you can take the test first, but it won't take effect until after you've worked for two years.If you want to work first you have to take the test.If you have completed a three- to four-year apprenticeship or co-op program, there is no requirement for two years of experience.The sign off form for two years of shop experience is available on the site.There is a student program.As long as you pass the tests in school, you can get a student certification.You would get the full certification when you finish the school or the two year experience requirements.

Step 4: Understand why certification is important.

The purpose of the organization is to improve the quality of automotive services in the United States.It helps car owners find experienced and certified technicians by making it easy to find, and it helps technicians drum up visibility for their skills and abilities.Business is better for everyone, and many shops will be more willing to hire certified technicians.It's an important investment for your career when you renew every five years.The more experience and certifications you have, the more valuable you will be to your customers.

Step 9: You should take the test.

The required time to report to the testing center is on the day of the test.Arrive early to fill out the paperwork for the test center.You need to provide the admission ticket printed out online or in the mail within 14 days of your registration submission to be admitted.Proof of work experience or completion of approved training programs are required.You will not be able to take the test if you don't bring a picture identification and admission ticket.Go home and wait, relax and do your best on the test.After 4 weeks, you'll get your test results.You should celebrate if you pass.Keep studying and take the test again if you don't.You can get results from the new computer tests in as little as 10 days.If you passed, you will receive a certification.You can get a temporary certification from the web site.

Step 10: The ASE logo can be seen on your website and garage.

Consumers know to look for the best.That means you're the best.To let people know you're good at what you do, display the logo prominently.Contact ASE if you want to use the logo in print.They need to know the URL of your website.You're encouraged to go through the extra step of getting the logo onto your materials, even though it's a trademark.

Step 11: If you want to become a Master Technician, consider it.

You are an attractive candidate for better and better jobs, including pay raises, if you keep climbing the ranks and working.Master Technician status can be achieved by passing a series of tests.Master certifications can be achieved in light and heavy vehicles.The requirements may change at any time.

Step 12: You need to keep your certification up to date.

You have to take the exam every 5 years.
