How To Open a Tight Jar

Everyone has had to deal with a jar in their life.It can feel like the lid is on.Whether you have helpful tools nearby or not, there are many ways to open a jar. It's tempting to use brute force to get the desired results.

Step 1: If you want to try anything else, wrap a rag around the lid.

Jars are usually easy to open if you have a good grip on it.Wrap the jar with a thin rag.Wrap your stronger hand around the lid and twist it clockwise. The increased grip from the rag should make it easier to remove the lid.

Step 2: If the rag doesn't work put an elastic band on the lid.

An elastic band is used to get a grip on the lid. It's a good idea to stretch an elastic band around a lid.Use your dominant hand to twist the jar.As you twist the elastic band on your hand, it will make it easier to open the jar.You can wrap several around the lid if one elastic band doesn't work.

Step 3: Wrap the lid in plastic to get more grip.

The lid should be completely covered by a sheet of plastic wrap. The plastic will crumple towards the lid if you grip it with your dominant hand.As hard as you can, twist anti-clockwise.The wrap on your hand is made of plastic. The more grip you have, the easier it is to open a jar. Before putting the lid back on, you need to layer plastic wrap over the jar.It will be much easier to twist the lid next time.

Step 4: Before twisting the lid open, wear rubber gloves.

Wearing rubber gloves to open a lid has the same effect as wearing plastic wrap over a jar.rubber gloves are more comfortable for you as you can grip the lid in a variety of ways. With your dominant hand, twist the lid as tightly as you can.The rubber gloves make it easier to open the lid.

Step 5: The lid should be tapped with a wooden spoon.

The jar should be put on the flat surface. The spoon is in your dominant hand.Pick 6 evenly-spaced spots around the lid and tap them with the head of the spoon.Try to screw the lid off with your dominant hand.It shouldn't be hard to twist off.Air bubbles rise when the edge of the lid is tapped.

Step 6: If you have one nearby, use a bottle opener to open the lid.

A bottle opener has a hooked edge to open bottles.Attach the hook to the jar's lid.The air seal can be broken if you hear an audible hiss.Take your dominant hand and twist the lid off.

Step 7: If you don't have other tools, rinse the lid with hot water.

Slowly rotating the jar under the hot water will take 1 minute. The hotter the water, the easier it is to pry off the lid.Dry the jar after the minute is over.If you want to screw the lid off, hold a rag in your dominant hand.If you don't have a constant source of hot water, you can make a bath out of it.The bowl should be filled with hot water. Then, plunge the entire jar into the bath for a full minute.Take the jar off, dry it with a rag, then use your dominant hand to open the lid.

Step 8: If you want to make air bubbles, hit the bottom of the jar with your hand.

Hold the jar by the lid with your non-dominant hand.Take out your dominant hand and hit the bottom of the jar with it.Air bubbles should be sent towards the lid by this force. To get the desired effect, you may need to smack the bottom of the jar several times.

Step 9: If smacking the jar doesn't work, put it against a table.

The jar should be held at a 45 degree angle from the lid with your non-dominant hand. Then, using the edge of a firm surface such as a counter or table, tap the lid against it.The air bubbles will help break the air seal.Don't tap the jar hard. The jar can be damaged or even broken.

Step 10: As a last resort, use an open flame to heat up the lid.

If you are not an adult, do not try this method. The jar should be held by the bottom and lowered towards the flame. The flame of a cooker works best. The flame will heat up when the lid is slowly rotating. The process shouldn't take more than a minute.Remove the lid from the heat if you see it start to bubble. The heat expands the molecule making it easier to open. It's a good idea to open the lid with a thick rag or gloves after heating it.With your dominant hand, twist the lid.
