How To Paint Vertical Blinds

If you've been looking at your blinds for a long time, you might be tired of the color. You might want to jazz them up by moving into a place with these blinds. You can paint them instead of buying a new color. The first thing to do is get your blinds ready for painting. The best way to paint vertical blinds is by spraying them with spray paint or stenciling them.

Step 1: Take your blinds down.

When you paint your blinds, they need to be on a flat surface so you don't mess with it.If you want to reduce the mess, hang them up outside. They need to be taken down from their indoor location.Individual slats will usually unhook from the top.

Step 2: The fabric insert needs to be removed from the blinds.

Some vertical blinds have fabric on one side and vinyl on the other, while others do not.Pull the insert out before you start painting. You may have to use a credit card to get it going.

Step 3: You should wash your blinds.

If your blinds have been hanging up for a while, they are likely dirty.Use warm water to wash them. The soap works well for this. It's easier to scrub them outside. Some blinds are machine washable. To make sure yours are, check the tag.Put them in the washing machine with a few towels. The gentle cycle, warm water, and detergent can be used.

Step 4: The blinds should be dry.

It will take plenty of time to dry your blinds. You should let them dry overnight if they are fabric.Turn them over after a few hours so they dry out.You can speed up the process by wiping down the blinds. Before you start painting the blinds should be completely dry.

Step 5: Pick a spray paint color.

You can find spray paint meant for fabric at a craft store.Pick a multi- surface spray paint if you have vinyl or fabric.

Step 6: The blinds should be hung outside.

It's easy to paint the blinds when they are hanging up.It can be very messy, so you want to do it outside. They can be hung on a clothesline or nailed to the fence. If you nail up your blinds, drive a nail into the fence and then hang them by the hole at the top, where you'd normally place them on the hook.If you're worried about getting spray paint on your fence, put something behind the slats such as a tarp or cardboard. It will only work on wooden fences.Clothespins can be used to hang them on the line. You can lay them flat if you don't have a backyard.Make sure to use aventilated area.Pick a day that isn't windy.

Step 7: Put the blinds down.

Light coats can be sprayed up and down each blind.Wait for it to dry before applying a new coat.To get the blinds evenly coated, you will need 2 to 3 coats. The paint can run or bubble if you use a thick coat.If you want to get the part that's under the clip at the top, you need to flip the blinds top to bottom halfway through.

Step 8: Allow the paint to dry.

The blinds should be given several hours to dry.If the weather is humid, you might want to leave them overnight. Before hanging the blinds back up, you should check for tackiness.

Step 9: Next to each other, lay the blinds down.

Take the width of your stencil and divide it by the number of blinds. There could be 2 to 4 blinds in a row.To make sure the ends are even, line them up.It can be done by using painter's tape at the top and bottom of the blinds.

Step 10: The stencil should be taped at the top with painter's tape.

Start at the top of the blinds.Place the stencil against the blinds. The painter's tape will come off more easily than regular tape.

Step 11: You can put a small amount of stencil creme on your brush.

Add a small amount of paint with a round stencil brush. You will end up with a mess if you use too much.Paint can be removed from a sponge or paper towel. There are craft stores where you can buy stencil creme. You can also use fabric paints.

Step 12: The stencil needs to be smudged with the brush.

Use the brush to lightly paint at the open areas of the stencil. You can add more paint to your brush. If you have a stencil, you may not want to fill it completely from edge to edge.A messier look is more appropriate.

Step 13: The stencil needs to be moved down.

Lift up the painter's tape when you're done with one section. The stencil should be moved down the blinds to a new position. The new section needs to be painted.Continue until you have painted the set of blinds.

Step 14: For all of your blinds, repeat.

The blinds should be laid out by section.Once you have the whole set done, paint each section. Before hanging them back up, let them dry.If you want to let the blinds dry overnight, you should check the paint to see how long it will take to dry.
