Step 8: Place your letters in ways that make it difficult for your opponent to score.

Winning at Words with Friends involves more than just scoring points for yourself, but also playing defense and preventing your opponent from scoring.Try to position the tiles so that your opponent doesn't have access to the lucrative colored tiles on the board when you play your letters.Don't play words next to double- or triple-word tiles.Although this may mean you have to play a word for a lower score somewhere else, it also prevents your opponent from playing these high-value tiles.

Step 9: Pick two words that you can play across other words.

If you only play in 2- or 4-tile squares, you can rack up points by playing 2-letter words. This will make it harder for your opponent to play off of your words. There are some examples of 2-letter words you can play.

Step 10: You can play your letters on the squares.

You can earn more points by placing your letters on the colored tiles.Double or triple points can be earned for the letter that is played on that tile, or the entire word that you played.Double- and triple-word squares are the most valuable colored tiles on the board.A double- or triple-letter tile is a good way to rack up extra points if you have a high value letter tile.
