How To Restore a Musty Mattress

An unpleasant musty smell can come from a mattress that has been in storage for a long time.Some suggestions for a better night's sleep.

Step 1: Determine the state of the mattress.

One thing is mustiness, another is mould and mildew.If the mattress is mouldy, check the extent.If the mattress has mold on it, you need to throw it out at a recycling depot.

Step 2: Put the mattress outside.

This can be done if the sun is shining and it isn't on wet ground.A good day of sunshine will help improve the smell of the mattress.If you can put it out for several days in a row, it's even better.

Step 3: The mattress has sponges on it.

Put 5 drops of tea tree oil into a bucket of water.There is a mixture over the mattress.Place out into the fresh air and dry thoroughly.Anti-bacterial and anti-mould activity can be achieved with tea tree oil.

Step 4: Baking soda or bicarbonate of soda can be used.

It's a good idea to sprinkle over the mattress.This should be able to absorb most of the smell.For two to four days, vacuum off the mattress.The mattress will be ready to use.

Step 5: A strong wood smell can be used to mask the mustiness.

There are some woods that can be cut into blocks and stuck between the mattress and base to release a better smell.They could be used at the same time.
