How To Separate Stuck Glasses

Sometimes stacked glasses are stuck together. The glasses expand when washed in hot water and then contract as they cool. There are ways to gently twist, heat, and lubricate the glasses.

Step 1: Understand how glass responds to heat.

When glasses are washed, they get stuck together.Glass expands when heated and contracts as it cools, so it's enough to stick glasses together in some cases. This can be used to separate the glasses. You will need to heat the outer glass and cool the inner glass in order to free them from each other.Stacking glasses can cause a problem in the future. Before you stack them, let the glasses cool down. This shouldn't be a problem if you wash with cold water.

Step 2: The outer glass should be heated.

You should use this method with care because of the risk. The inner glass needs to slip away since the outer glass shrunk around it.The outer glass can be heat by running it under the hot tap.The glasses are supposed to come unstuck. The inner glass could be cooled by filling it with the cold tap.Do not use ice or boiling water. The sudden change in temperature could cause one or both glasses to shatter violently. The situation is especially risky because the glass is already under compression.

Step 3: Cool the inner glass.

If you can't free the glasses by heating the outer glass, try to cool the inner glass. The outer glass will expand.

Step 4: Use a bowl of hot water.

The top glass should be filled with cold water. To bathe the base of the bottom glass in the heat, fill a shallow bowl with hot water.Try to pull the glasses apart after a few minutes.

Step 5: Pull the glasses apart.

The glasses should be separated by the temperature difference.Hold the glasses firmly, with one hand on the bottom of the outer glass and the other encircling the rim.To tug the glasses apart, twist and tilt them.Give the glasses more time to expand and contract. The bottom glass should be left in the hot water. You can try again a few minutes later.

Step 6: To tilt the glasses, try to twist them.

The upper glass may be pinched between two points in the lower glass because it is unlikely to be perfectly round. If there is movement when you tilt the glass, it will be easier to detach them.

Step 7: Don't be aggressive.

Don't apply excessive force. You might shatter one or both of the glasses if you are too rough. It's possible that the glasses will slip or shoot out of your hands.Make sure you have a firm grip on the glass. Before you start, make sure you dry the glasses and hands. The glass might fall if you slip on it.

Step 8: Consider breaking one of the glasses.

If you can't get the glasses to fit, breaking one may keep you from losing both.Hold the base in your hand if you want to place the glass on a clean surface. The outer glass can be cracked with a hammer. There is a chance that you will break both glasses, but this can be a great last-ditch effort. It's a good idea to get all the shards of broken glass after.First of all, safety!

Step 9: Blow air between the glasses.

There is a thin layer of water between the glasses. If you squeeze a straw between the two glasses, it will blow in.A small amount of air is needed. The straw is being squeezed so try to blow in as much air as you can.

Step 10: Light lubrication can be applied.

The next step is to apply some light lubrication if the glasses are stubborn, and you're making no progress by simply twisting them apart.A small amount of oil may work. You can try using soap.If the glasses are pinned together, it is more effective. The oil method can be used in conjunction with the heating method. It is possible that this may be effective on stubborn glasses. It's possible to useWD-40 oil as a last-ditch resort. There is a spray between the glass. The oil should spread quickly and it should be easy to remove the glasses from each other. It's important to wash the glasses thoroughly after doing this.

Step 11: The oil should be between the glasses.

To get the oil into the pinch point, gently tilt the upper glass back and forth. The oil loosens the glasses as you rock them.Spread the lubricant over the glasses.Use a knife or thin drinking straw to push the liquid in.Don't be aggressive!

Step 12: The glasses should be twisted apart.

When you think they are lubricating enough, grab the inner and outer glass with your dominant hand.To loosen the grip, twist the glasses in opposite directions.Pull them apart at the same time.Try to twist it instead of pulling it.The glass should come off by itself if the twisting works.Don't try to get the glasses off right away. The force needed to hold the glass could break it.
