How To Set Decimal Places on a TI BA II Plus Calculator

The TI BA II Plus is a very easy to use financial calculator.All it takes is a few button pushes to change the setting to 2 decimal places.It's easy to set the calculator to show 0-8 decimal places, or a "floating decimal" display that adjusts as needed.

Step 1: Press the [ON/OFF] button if you need to turn on the calculator.

You can adjust the number of decimal places if the calculator is already on.You can change the number of places displayed for the calculations you are working on.When you exit from the process of changing the number of decimal places, the display will read 3.0000.No matter what you put on the calculator, it always calculates numbers to 13 decimal places.The calculator will display the number as 3.0000000000000, but it won't tell you how much it costs.

Step 2: The second button is located near the top left of the keypad.

The button is called the second function.There is a label above the buttons on the TI BA II Plus.The upper labels are for just the next button push if you hit the second button.The button has a label above it.Press the 2nd button before turning the 5 button into the% second function.

Step 3: Touch it.

There is aFORMAT label above this button.The second function is active because you just pressed the second button.TheFORMAT button is now used.

Step 4: You can check for it on the screen.

This shows you are in the menu for the TI BA II Plus.The calculator is currently set to display 2 decimal places, which is the default for the device.The screen will show the current setting if the decimal place setting has been changed before.If the calculator is set to show 3 decimal places, the screen will show theDEC.

Step 5: The number button can be pressed from 0 to 8.

You can set a financial calculator to zero decimal places by pressing the [0] button.The device will display 8 decimal places if you press the [8] button at the other end of the scale.

Step 6: The number button can be used to set a floating decimal format.

This option causes the TI BA II Plus to show a variable number of places.This option will show as few decimal places as are necessary in order to completely display the number, but no more than 9.In the default format, the display will read "3.50" if you enter the number 3.5.If it is set to zero, it will read 4.If it is set to 3 decimal places, it will read.If it is set to 8 decimal places, it will read.If set to the floating decimal format, it will read 3.5.

Step 7: After pressing your number button, push theENTER button.

There are two buttons from the left in the top row.The setting of the decimal place is reset when you press it.

Step 8: You should be able to see your chosen decimal places on the screen.

Zero places are: 1 place, 2 places, and 3 places.

Step 9: Touch the 2nd button to exit the screen.

After hitting the combination of buttons, the screen will return to what it appeared on before you entered, but with a different setting.

Step 10: The calculator should be used as normal.

The updated decimal place setting will be retained by the TI BA II Plus until you decide to change it again.The only exception is if you go through the process of restoring all default settings.To reset the calculator, press theENTER button.This clears the calculator's memory, removes any data from it, and restores all settings.
