Whether you are new to sewing or a sewing veteran, adding a collar onto a shirt can be difficult.There are easy ways to simplify the process.Follow the instructions carefully if you start with a pattern.Attach your collar to your shirt by sewing it together.
Step 1: You can choose a pattern.

Step 3: Cut out the collar pieces with the paper pattern.

Step 4: There is iron.
Place 1 of the collar pieces on a flat surface, such as an ironing board or a towel, after you've finished cutting out the fabric pattern pieces.The fabric piece should be placed on top of the interfacing.The side with the glue is facing down.Place a towel or t-shirt over the fabric and iron to connect it.To find out if you need to do anything special, check the instructions.You might need to press on the fabric for 5 seconds to make sure they are connected.
Step 5: The right side of the collar should be facing each other.
The right side of the collar should be facing up if you lay it with the interfacing attached.Put the other collar piece on top of the one with the right side facing up.Line up the edges of the 2 pieces so that they are even, then pin them along the short and long edges.Leave the edge unpinned if it has a notch in it.It is important for the notch to remain visible because you will need to line up this side of the collar.
Step 6: From the raw edges on 3 sides, sew a straight stitch.

Step 7: Take the fabric around the outside of the stitches.

Place the collar on a flat surface, such as an ironing board or a towel.Then, use the iron on the lowest setting to iron it.The iron should be run across the collar.Before you iron it, you may want to place a t-shirt or towel over the delicate fabric.
Step 10: An edgestitch can be added to the outside of the collar.
Edge stitching the collar can make it look more finished and help it hold its shape.A straight stitch is 0.25 in (0.64 cm) from the secured edges of the collar.You should not sew the edgestitch on the side of the collar.
Step 11: The collar should be pinned to the shirt's neckline.
The right sides of the shirt should be lined up so that the collar is not visible.It's important to match the collar and neckline.The collar should be centered before you start sewing.The collar has a pin inserted every 2 to 3 in.If there is no notch, center the collar on the neckline.
Step 12: The neckline and collar have raw edges.
After pinning the collar in place, take the shirt and collar to your sewing machine and sew a straight stitch along the raw edges.The stitch should be positioned from the edges of the collar and neckline.For extra security, you may want to sew across the neckline twice.After sewing the collar into the neckline, cut off any loose threads.
