One of the most important parts of a bear is its ears.They are one of the easiest to make.To make simple ears, cut out 2 pieces of fabric and sew them together.You can either roll the ends together or sew them to the head.If you put the ears on the head evenly, your teddy will be a good one.
Step 1: The ear pieces are cut using a pattern.
The fuzzy side of your teddy bear should be placed the same as the flat side.Attach a few sewing pins through the ear pattern piece to keep it from sliding.You have 4 matching ear pieces if you cut out the material and repeat the process 3 more times.You may be directed to cut 2 circles for the ears.You will cut the circles in half to make the pieces.
Step 2: The wrong sides of the pieces need to be stacked.
The ear pieces should be arranged so that the curved edges line up with the fuzzy sides of the fabric.Place the sewing pins through the pieces.This will repeat for the other 2 pieces.Tuck the long fibers in so they don't stick out from the sides.They won't get stuck in your sewing machine.
Step 3: Straight stitches are used around the corners and curved edge.
The needle should be at the flat side of the corner if you position the pinned ears first.You can keep sewing along the curved edge by straight stitching the 2 inch to the corner.When you reach the other corner, turn the fabric and sew along the straight edge.As you sew, leave 4 inch (0.64 cm) seam allowance.This should be repeated for the other teddy bear ear.
Step 4: Each ear should be turned right-side out.
If you want the fuzzy sides of the ears to face out, use your fingers to flip the material.If you're having trouble getting the corners to turn out, you can use a knitting needle or a chopstick.
Step 5: The ladder should be sewn across the straight edge.
To close the ears, thread a needle and hold them together.Pull the needle up through the fabric to hide the knot.A straight stitch is about 4 inch long at the top edge.If you want to sew another straight stitch, insert the needle below the one on the opposite edge.You should keep sewing back and forth between the edges.The join is invisible because of this.The invisible stitch is a great way to work across the straight edges of the ears.Use thread that matches the teddy bear's color.
Step 6: The ears should be on the teddy bear's head.
It's important that the ears are placed evenly on the head.Pin them in place so you can see that they're correct.To find the center, look at the top of the bear's head.The straight edges of the ears should be put an equal distance from the center point.Pull the corners of the ears forward a little before pinning them to the head.
Step 7: To sew the straight edge of each ear to the head, use the ladder stitch.
Find your needle and thread once you're happy with your ear placement.Attach the needle to the head and make a long straight stitch.The back of the ear is where the needle should be brought to make another straight stitch.Make the ladder stitch across the straight edge of the ear.To make the seam invisible, pull the thread firmly as you sew.
Step 8: The ladder should be put across the front of each ear.
Continue to sew the ladder stitch on the front of the ears.The stitches should be between the head and straight edge.Tie off the thread after that.Once you've sewed the ears to the head, remove the pins.If the bear's ears are shaggy, you can trim them with a small comb and scissors.
