How to Stop an Old Alarm System from Continuously Beeping is one of five steps.

The first thing you need to do is open your alarm. If you know the code to disarm the alarm, enter it and see if it stops the sound.Press the buttons labeled "clear" or "reset" if you don't know the code.

Pressing the "*" or "#" keys will often silence the sounder.Don't press those keys at the same time because that combination is used as an emergency signal to dispatch police.

You may have one of the following issues if the sound persists or starts again shortly after you put in your code.

Do you want a security professional to stop the sound? We are happy to help.Call us at 804.745.1117 or click the button below to schedule an appointment.

If your alarm isn't getting any power, it will alert you and let you know something is wrong.

If it's lost electrical current, the alarm will display a "AC loss" or "No AC" signal. If this is the case, the noise you hear is meant to alert you that you have a backup power source.

If you notice that other appliances in your home aren't turning on, that could be a sign that you have an issue.

Every alarm system has a transformer that plugs the security system into a wall outlet for power.

Your system will lose power if the transformer/outlet connection is loose. The transformer needs to be connected to the wall outlet.

The outlet may be faulty if the connection is not secure. You need to get in touch with a professional to figure out what the problem is.

If the power goes out, most alarm systems have a backup battery. If the alarm system's battery is low or dead, the system will start to sound and alert you that it needs to be replaced.

Your battery will either need to be disconnected or replaced if it's low.The battery and terminal should be disconnected if you don't use your old alarm system anymore.

The control panel can be found in a closet, utility room or basement. There is a rectangular box with the alarm manufacturer's name on it.

Try to open the panel with a screwdriver.A key or security code is required to open some panels. There is a taped key on the top of the box.If you don't know the code or have a key, you will need a professional to disassemble the panel and remove the battery.

You can see a box connected to a circuit board if you remove the panel yourself. The battery is here.If you want to replace the battery, you need to know what type of battery it is.

There are wires connecting the battery to the circuit board.Remove the black wire from the negative terminal. The red wire needs to be removed from the positive terminal.

If you have a replacement battery, you can connect it to the circuit board with the red wire. The black wire should be connected to the battery.

If the low battery notification is gone after the battery is connected, you need to go to your alarm keypad. You will need to contact a security system professional if the warning continues.Allow up to 6 hours for the panel to recognize battery change, this may not be an instant fix.

If you leave the alarm system disconnected, you will also want to remove the transformer. The image above is of a transformer. The sound of the alarm system will stop if the transformer is unplugged.

It could be due to a connection issue with the phone line, if you have a monitored security system and use landline monitoring.Pick up the phone to confirm a phone line issue. This is your issue if the line is dead.

It can be difficult to fix a faulty phone line, so we recommend contacting a security professional. To find out if the issue is something on their end, you need to contact your phone service provider.

It is a less secure way to keep an eye on your home.Your safest option is to have a professional upgrade your security system to cellular monitoring instead of repairing an outdated system.

If you still hear that annoying sound when you try to fix the problem, it is time to call a professional. We know how to fix old or new alarm systems.
