How To Stream Videos to Your Mobile Device from Windows

There are many different types of devices that you can use to stream your media.You need to set up Windows to stream your content before you can start streaming on your network.This can be done in a few easy steps, and you can do it on Windows 7 to 10.

Step 1: You can open Windows Media Player.

You will need to enable DLNA in order to stream your content to different devices.Digital Living Network Alliance is a standard for streaming content over local media devices.A small box will open in the lower left-hand side of the screen if you press and hold the Windows key.Hit Enter when you type in "wmplayer".The Windows Media Player should start.

Step 2: Turn on media streaming.

There are three different options in the upper left-hand corner of the window once WMP starts.Click the down arrow to the right of the Stream option to bring up a drop-down menu.There should be a shield icon to the left of the button that says "Turn on media streaming" if you click this option.Click this to continue.

Step 3: You should change your settings.

A series of different options should be shown on the page.At the very top, you will see an area that says "name your media library." Click inside the box and rename the library to something more specific.You will want to know which device the content is on.The other options in this area should be set up automatically.If you are connected to a Homegroup, you may have a next button in the lower right-hand corner.A small window should pop up if you click "Next", which will give you a series of libraries that you can share with the homegroup.There should be pictures, videos, music, documents, and printers and devices.Each will have a menu to the right.To adjust each permission, click the drop-down box and choose either shared or not shared.After joining a homegroup, this library will be made available to all other Windows devices as well.The password of the homegroup should be displayed on a new screen if you click next.Click the finish button to continue.

Step 4: You can allow remote control of your player.

You can allow remote control of your player from the list on the Stream menu.There are two different options inside the small window.Click the top option if you want to allow remote control on this network.It's a good idea to have a remote control for media players on mobile devices.Should you want it, you won't have to worry about enabling it in the future.You will be able to control the media on the remote media server from your mobile device.The features of the application you are using are limited.

Step 5: UPnPlay can be downloaded and installed.

Go to the app drawer on your device and scroll through until you see the Play icon.It should look like a white bag with a play icon inside.To open, tap to open.You should see a search bar at the top.If you tap the magnifying glass in the upper right-hand corner, you'll hit the return key on the on-screen keyboard.The app you're looking for should be the first result.There are three different remote control icons below the icon.The white box has 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner.Wait until it's finished, then tap "Install" and hit "Accept."

Step 6: Go to UPnPlay.

The app is easy to use.Pull down the notification bar and tap the UPnPlay icon.As soon as the app opens, you should be able to find the DLNA media server on your PC.When it does, it will be listed on the front page.For Windows 7 devices or local accounts on Windows 8 or higher, it should be listed as "PC-Name:email@address.com."The email address will be changed when you name your media library.Continue to the next step once it appears.

Step 7: You can find your media.

You can tap on your media server.You should be able to load a series of available libraries once you do.Try to test some music from the server first because music will always load faster than video.Wait until it loads after you tap "Music" and "All Music".

Step 8: There is a test stream.

Press and hold on a song, and then select the play track from the list that appears.It should be the top choice.If the track does not start playing, hit the Play button.If you hear your music, you can hit the little disc button in the lower left-hand corner to return to the main menu.

Step 9: You can stream videos.

You can select the video you want to watch now that you know the streaming will work.When you tested the streaming, you could play a video the same way you played music.Enjoy.

Step 10: Smart Player can be downloaded and installed.

You can find the Store app from the home screen of your Windows Phone.To open the tab, hit the search icon at the bottom center.The enter key can be found in the lower right hand corner.The top result should be what you are looking for.There is a black icon with white around it and a white play button inside.The install is in the bottom left.Wait for it to finish installing.Then hit the lower left corner.You can open it from the given list.

Step 11: Find your media server.

There are a lot of different options on the main menu.To see your media server listed, scroll down to the bottom of the list.You should see the email address listed.You can load the libraries page by tapping.You should see a lot of things.To continue, tap on theVideos.

Step 12: Choose a player and play some media.

You should see a lot of different options.To see a list of all videos, tap "All Videos"There is an interesting feature in this app.From the screen in front of you, you can choose a network player.Every other option below should be a network- connected device with a media player running, and the top option is your current device.You should see a series of different remote control options at the top of the screen if you select a player.To start the video, tap the play button.The network media player needs to be open on the device in order to use it.If you want to play a video on your Windows PC in another room, you will need to keep it open and have it appear in the network-connected players list.
