How To Study Efficiently

If you want to do well in class or have a big test coming up, studying is one of the best things you can do to boost your grade. You will be more comfortable with the material the more you review it, even though going over things you already learned might seem boring. We will start with some tips on forming the best study habits and move on to techniques to learn and memorize information so you do your best in class.

Step 1: You should keep your study sessions shorter.

If you have time, set aside an hour for each of your subjects.During each block, focus on one subject at a time so you don't get information mixed up between classes.Break up larger assignments into smaller steps that you can complete within an hour.

Step 2: You should step away for a few minutes every hour.

Since studying takes up a lot of energy and brainpower, schedule in 5–10 minutes every hour where you just relax. You can check your phone, browse through social media, take a walk, or get a snack to give yourself some space from your schoolwork. If you work through the breaks, you won't feel as alert as you normally would.Taking breaks motivates you to learn as much as you can in the time you have.

Step 3: It's a good idea to set aside time for notes in class.

You can focus a little better if you find a time when you feel the most energetic and motivated to study.Try to plan the same time every day in order to get into a regular routine.Don't forget to block out at least two hours of your day in a calendar or aplanner. For example, in your schedule, you can write, "Read Chapter 2 for Chemistry and complete study guide" or "Review Geometry problems in Chapter 4 for text on Friday."If you leave room in your schedule to hang out with friends and relax, you won't feel overwhelmed by your schoolwork.

Step 4: There is a place where you can concentrate on the material.

It will be hard to focus and remember the material if you are studying in a loud room.If you want to sit at the school library, go into your room and shut the door.If you live with other people, please be courteous and be quiet when you plan your study time.Everyone has their own ideal study environment. You should find places that work for you.

Step 5: You can focus on your work if you turn off your devices.

It's a good idea to avoid checking your Facebook or texts while you're studying. You don't want to get notifications if you set your phone to do not disturb.Shut off your TV and computer and focus on the work in front of you if you normally watch shows or browse the internet while you do schoolwork. If there is a lot of background noise, try playing some calming instrumental music and wearing headphones.Since it's more distracting, avoid music with lyrics.

Step 6: It is possible to keep motivated by working with your classmates.

If the other students want to review with you, ask them.Make sure you stay focused on learning during your study sessions. If you want to independently solve problems, try quizzing each other on core concepts. You should teach the other people in your study group the concepts you are learning. They will be able to learn it easier and you will commit more to memory.Everyone in the group should be given a chance to answer questions.

Step 7: When you have the most energy, work on difficult concepts.

You won't feel as motivated to learn about tough subjects if you save them for later.Pick the class or subject you have the most trouble with and work on it immediately when you sit down to study. Before going onto the easier material, you should go through the concepts that are the most difficult. If you are doing well in math but struggling in chemistry, you should review chemical formulas and your science textbook before working on your math problems.

Step 8: Determine important reading concepts from chapter headings and images.

Before you start reading a book, you need to page through the chapter, write down the headings, and look at the pictures.Ask yourself what the reading will cover and what you already know about it after you've read the chapter. You can get a better idea of what you need to remember when you read through it.The Civil War was fought in the United States between the North and the South.Who are the notable figures in the Civil War and how did the war start?

Step 9: It's easier to retain information when you organize your notes.

If you took notes in class, the information may jump around and not be cohesive.Pick out the information you think is most important from the notes you have taken.Rewriting the notes on a separate page or in a different notebook will make it easier to read.It is possible to pull out the most important information if you review it in your own words.Since copying the text word for word won't help you remember it as well, you should also paraphrase notes you take from reading assignments.

Step 10: You cangrain information in your mind by repeating it across study sessions.

If you want to remember the information long-term, you need to go over your notes once. You will be more likely to remember the concept if you repeat it out loud or in writing at least 3 times. When you study again, make sure to review all of the information you have covered before. If you want to remember words in Spanish, say them loud at the beginning of your study session.Try to say the words again without looking.Go over the words one more time at the end of your session. It's not as effective to only focus on one problem for the whole study session. If you need to study multiplication problems, it is a good idea to mix them with other addition, subtraction, and division problems.

Step 11: You can commit it to memory during your free time.

Put the answer on the back of the index cards and write down the study questions. If you have time to kill, pull out the flashcards and look at the questions. Before checking the answer on the back, try to answer from memory. You can review the information if you set aside the cards that you get wrong or have trouble answering. When studying your flashcards, try to put more time in between. If you consistently answer the questions right, you should only review them once a day.

Step 12: Take a test to see how well you recall information.

A lot of books have questions at the end of the chapter so you can test your knowledge. You can ask your teacher for a study guide or find online quizzes on the subject you are learning.Try to take the quiz without looking at answers.Make a point to review the information when you are done and check what you got wrong.

Step 13: To remember long pieces of info, use letters and nonsense sentences.

If you can't memorize a list, try abbreviating it using the first letter of every item. You will have to use more brainpower since you are focusing on visual and active images instead of a basic list. You can remember the names of the Great Lakes by using the acronym HOMES.The sentence "every good boy deserves fudge" can help you remember the 5 notes on a treble clef.

Step 14: When you reach your study goals, treat yourself to a small treat.

When you're done with your studies, give yourself something to look forward to.You can buy yourself a small gift, go for a long walk, play video games, hang out with friends, or have a sweet snack. When you ace a practice quiz, celebrate because you feel more accomplished.
