How To Tell if Your Guy or Girl Is Lying to You

Communication is not universal so reading people's body language is difficult. You have to look at the signs in the context of the other person's personality, social factors, what he says, and the setting. It's important to use as much of the information as you can because you might not have access to all of it.By knowing the context, you can see if someone is saying something that isn't true.

Step 1: There are myths about body language.

No one would be able to lie successfully if there was only one universal sign for lying.A person's body language is the result of their current situation, energy level, personality, confidence, and intimacy with you.People avoid doing things if they are lying to avoid getting caught. It is believed that looking down is a sign of lying and so many liars don't look down when lying. Some people have different responses to certain emotions or situations. You might be able to catch a lie if you know these. If you know your son smiles when he lies, you can use that as an indicator. The person knows their ticks and habits if you know them.Body language can be a cue that someone is lying. If you and your son know that he usually smiles when he's lying, he might be less likely to smile during a lie.

Step 2: There are a few patterns that exist.

There are general trends of body language that indicate lying.People who are lying are more tense because their pupils dilate.People who are lying try to appear indifferent. The patterns of body language vary wildly from person to person and can happen for a number of reasons.

Step 3: Accept your weaknesses and strengths.

You can receive messages from other people that do not involve words or speaking through body language. The three main channels are kinesics, eye contact, and body language. You are going to be the most skilled at understanding kinesics and then proxemics.People are better at understanding pleasant kinesics than unpleasant. If you don't understand what proxemics means, do this test.Stand in line if you are in a line with strangers.Take a step closer to the person in front of you.Is the shorter distance more uncomfortable?Does the other person adjust based on your movement?Communication about personal space is not always plain.

Step 4: Understand cultural differences.

Verbal messages are different in culture. She is sending a signal when she makes eye contact. In Japanese culture, when someone makes eye contact, they are seen to be expressing anger.Remember the cultural context of you, your guy or girl and the situation you're in.

Step 5: Don't listen for too much.

People are more likely to use short responses to questions if they lie. They may take longer to respond.People will give less rich details when they respond to other people's questions. The other person should tell a long story.Ask the person what their plans are for the holidays.Do not ask questions with answers that could be "yes" or "no".

Step 6: Pick up the information.

You can sometimes tell if a story is a lie if you listen to it carefully. They also will use other-oriented pronouns and phrases, like "she forgot this" or "something happened to the car."Look for stories that seem out of place.People who are lying use fewer gestures.

Step 7: Look at her or his voice.

Is the person speaking in a higher tone?Is the person speaking fast?Is it louder or quieter?Lying makes people's voices sound higher, but some people may compensate or go another route. It's possible that your significant other is speaking in unusual tones.

Step 8: When they're there, notice.

Sometimes you don't know where your partner is.A sign of lying is unexplained chunks of time. When you're not there, talk to your partner about what they do.You should be respectful of the other person's space and relationship.Ask your friends, family, or coworkers to double-check your stories.

Step 9: Check your finances.

It is important that you check your bank account, extra cash, and wallet if you are dishonest in a relationship. For married couples, this step is more relevant.Look for charges that are new to you.Don't get into someone else's financial history without their permission. It is possible to look through your own eyes.

Step 10: Look at what they do.

They might act differently when you're around. They could be checking their phone more often or kissing you before you go to sleep.Lying can be a behavior change. If your guy or girl is lying, investigate the cause of a behavior change.People who are lying don't like being questioned. In social media, texting or at work, the behavior change is obvious. It might not be obvious to you.

Step 11: Look at your relationship.

Is it an ongoing problem to trust your guy or girl?Did you catch your partner in a lie before? At some point, the problem is not whether your partner is lying to you, it's whether you feel like you're being lied to.Look at the whole picture of your relationship with this person if you suspect they are lying to you.Systemic or serial lying can be a sign that something isn't working in the relationship. If your partner is lying, you have to decide if you want to move forward in the relationship or not.The wrongdoer needs to accept responsibility, show remorse, and change their behavior in order to be forgiven. You need to reinforce a positive perspective by acknowledging their efforts.
