How To Transfer an Image to Wood Using Gesso

Gesso transferring shows an image on another surface.By using a reversed image, the image will take on the surface's texture.This can be applied to more than one medium.

Step 1: One layer of white gesso is all you need to prep your wood.

As long as it's even, you can either brushed on, rolled on or apply it.If you're using a canvas or canvas panel that has already had gesso added, skip this step.The gesso should be dry for 24 hours.

Step 2: Pick a picture.

Use any image editor to flip your image.The reverse image will be created so that it will display correctly.

Step 3: Your image can be printed with a laser printer.

This transfer will only work with laser prints.If you use regular paper, Inkjet prints will stain your skin.If you want, you can use the inkjet prints on the photo paper.

Step 4: There is another layer of gesso on top of the wood panel.

Step 5: Place the image face down on the wood panel while the gesso is still wet.

Make sure the print is against the surface by using a brayer.Roll out the air bubbles.

Step 6: Allow the image to sit until it is dry.

It is best to wait another 24 hours.

Step 7: It is safe to start removing the paper after the gesso has dried.

Water or wetted fingers can be used to take off the paper.Rub the paper off with our fingers.The image will show up.All of the paper may not come off the first time.

Step 8: Allow the image to dry.
