How To Write a LinkedIn Recommendation

It's a great way to show support. It can help a person find a job.You can find someone's profile by going to their page.Write about how you know this person and why you think they'll be great employees.

Step 1: You can open the page.

Go to the website. If you're signed into the service, you should open the home page. You can type your email address and password into the fields at the top of the page if you're not signed in.

Step 2: Go to your contact's page.

The search bar at the top of the page has a name you can type into it.Underneath the search bar, there is a name that pops up.This will lead you to the page you need.

Step 3: The ellipses icon is on their profile.

It is to the right of their profile picture. The drop down menu created by this icon will allow you to write a recommendation.

Step 4: Click the name to recommend it.

There is an option at the bottom of the menu. You can click this button."Who do you recommend?" should be the prompt you get.You should type your connection's name again.

Step 5: Follow the prompt.

There is a prompt that will walk you through the recommendation. How you know this person and where you worked will be some of the information you'll be asked to fill in.There is a text box where you can write your recommendation.

Step 6: Think about the person's career goals.

A wide range of skills can be applied to a variety of careers.Think about the career goals of the person you're narrowing down on.What kind of job are they looking for?How should you help them find a job?Say you're writing a recommendation for someone in the field of writing and editing. They want to be a staff writer for a magazine. While writing a recommendation, think about skills specific to their job.If someone wants to be a writer, talk about being an intern at a newspaper.

Step 7: Think of a starting line.

Employers read hundreds of profiles each day.Bill is a hard worker.Someone won't stop to read. While someone is working through profiles, think of a line that will stand out from the crowd. You want employers to stop and think, "This is the best person for the job."Think of a way to convey your favorite quality about the person.Do not say that Bill is a great writer.Say something like, "It's not often you find someone who is willing to spend an afternoon pondering a single sentence, but Bill has a strong dedication to quality prose."

Step 8: Discuss your relationship with the person.

After your introductory sentence, tell how you know this person. An employer wants you to be more than a friend.Someone who can really speak to someone's skill set is what they want. When Bill finished his senior year, I was his supervisor for the student newspaper.

Step 9: Discuss their skills.

Get specific.Specific things your contact did should be brought after giving some general skills.List their skills and how they were used.Bill is not a naturally gifted writer.Quality prose requires patience, dedication, and work ethic. He gives close attention to detail in all aspects of his work, and has never had issues meeting deadlines.

Step 10: One outstanding trait is the focus.

Zero in on one outstanding trait after giving a list of some general qualities. The recommendation will be helped by this.If you want to include everything in a single recommendation, think about a trait that makes this person stand out. What do you like most about your contact?Bill's creativity is one thing that makes him stand out.He was able to spin his writing assignments into an interesting angle when I gave them to him.He could make a story about a new parking garage as interesting as an investigative piece about mishandled university donations.

Step 11: Tell the person's accomplishments.

Do you have any specific accomplishments you would like to share?Concrete accomplishments, often including numbers or statistics, are what employers are attracted to.This shows what an individual can do.While most students put out an article a week, Bill puts out about five articles per week. The days Bill's articles ran, our online readership went up about 20%.

Step 12: Discuss the achievements of the person.

Tie everything together after mentioning someone's achievements.Discuss what achievements say about a person. An employer will have a clear picture of the kind of worker you are talking about.Bill's ability to work fast and passionately and draw in readers is a testament to his creativity and drive. He's willing to go above and beyond the call of duty.

Step 13: End with a personal note.

Something personal is what you should say in closing your recommendation.Discuss how you remember working with the person and think about their future."Bill is very much missed at the paper, but I'm excited to see where he goes next."I look forward to seeing him succeed and I have faith that he will go far in life.

Step 14: Read the proofread.

Make sure your recommendation is correct before uploading it.You don't want a recommendation to be messed with.Wait an hour or so before reading your recommendation. It's possible to spot typos looking at it with fresh eyes.
