Is it a good idea to clean STAINLESS steel with baby oil.

Hey!I am so excited to be a contributor for Uncommon Designs, I still can't believe it!I am not a great cook, my house is disorganized and not all that clean, but I love to be inspired by the great ideas of others and put my own spin on them.I share where the ideas came from, how I made it my own, and how it worked for me.I hope you will stop by and check out some of the projects I have shared in my Winner's Circle!Over the next few months, I will be sharing a few tried and true Household and Organization tips.

There is a very simple and effective cleaning tip that I will share with you.

A few weeks ago, we moved to a house with a renovated kitchen, complete with five appliances and a gas range.I had never had to clean it before. It wasn't long after we moved in that the fridge looked like this.

A friend told us that a salesman at an appliance store told him to use mineral oil to shine the steel. He said that it helped to keep it shiny and repel fingerprints and smudges.

I decided to try baby oil instead of mineral oil because I wasn't sure what it was or where to buy it.I was excited to give it a try after finding out that this had been done before with success.Do you not have any baby oil? It's possible to try olive oil instead.

To clean your appliances, use a soft, wet rag.The baby oil won't really clean the dirt off of the surface.Adding a little bit of vinegar to the rag will make it tougher. We will take care of the watermarks left by the rag.

You need baby oil and a soft cloth.I used an old soft cotton t-shirt because I didn't have any on hand.

Put some baby oil on your cloth and wipe it off in the direction of the steel. What? You didn't know that it has a grain?I did as well. Can you see that there are lots of tiny lines all going in the same direction? You risk scratching the surface if you wipe parallel to the lines. After using almost no pressure, turn your cloth over to the dry side and buff the oil off.I ended up with a couple of streaks on my first pass, but I went over it again with some more oil and got that perfect sparkling shine I was looking for.

I have found that this method repels those little fingerprints.I love that it is safe for her.

I was able to shine my fridge, dishwasher, oven, and microwave in less than 30 minutes.Absolutely worth it.Even though the dishes are dirty on the counter, the whole kitchen looks so much cleaner.

Do you have any ideas on how to keep your kitchen clean? When it comes to cleaning, I always look for great ideas and tips.

I will be sharing another Household and Organization tip with you next month, and I would love for you to visit me on Facebook orPinterest. Thanks to Bonnie and Trish, I was able to visit you today.

What a great idea!I've never heard of shinning your steel with baby oil.Just made it to my pin board, thanks for sharing, it was wonderful.

I have used mineral oil but not baby oil. Thanks!I know I can use either one.Our salesman told us that it was the best stuff to use.You can buy mineral oil in the pharmacy section of any store.Mineral oil is used to coat my cutting boards.

That makes sense since Baby Oil has a scent added to it.I am happy that it worked for you.

This post gave me a lot of information.I used a thick cloth diaper to buff and shine the appliances in my kitchen when I was a kid because my mom was always clean.I had forgotten about it.That is a great tip.

If I had to do it all over again, I would go another route. Can't wait to try!

This works well in sinks made of steel.I have found that olive oil can remove some of the stubborn dirt that soap and water can't.

Great tip!I have done this and it works well on the stove vent hood with all its grease build up.

That is a great tip.The only appliance that I have is a mess, so I will definitely try this out. Thanks!

I used to work in a bakery where we cleaned and polished the ovens and proofers.

I put off buying the expensive cleaners. This worked well.Your post has been shared by all my friends. Thanks for the tip.

I used olive oil since I had it on hand. The dog walked up and licked off all my hard work as I stood back admiring the beautiful shine.I will need some mineral oil or baby oil to give it another try.The results were amazing.

I tend to be lazy and use babywipes on the exhaust hood and then shine it with a microfiber cloth.

Thank you for sharing! You were found on the board.I clean condominiums as a second job, and most of them have STAINLESS STEEL APPLIANCES which are often a mess from water marks and finger prints.I can't wait to try the baby oil because it's expensive and toxic. This will save me money.

Great tip!I redid the kitchen with all steal appliances.I would like to use something more earth friendly.

I'm happy I found this tip.I have tried everything but my sink and all my kitchen appliances are made of steel. One time my oven door broke and the repair man came to fix it, it was still under warranty.I asked him how I could keep it clean and shiny. He said to take a picture.I am excited to try your tip, I haven't tried it yet.Keeping my fingers crossed!

I learned this from the guy at my old laundromat who always used baby oil, now I know mineral oil works.

That is a great idea.Windex along with a few paper cloths works well for STAINLESS STEEL.Your idea about baby oil is very clever.I recommend it to my friends.Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much.I don't like how our steel looks. It is finally clean and free of stains.
