Is it possible to see the Northern Lights from Toronto or Montreal

From Toronto, only occasionally, and the great amount of light from the city obscures most viewing. If you get 100 km or so out of the city your chances improve, but there is only about once a month when the display is visible.

Yes in very special conditions it is possible, however these 2 cities have so much pollution and the northern lights at this lattitude are generally so faint that it’s almost impossible.I used to live in Ile Perrot which is the next island to the southwest of Montreal (about 10km by flight) and I remember once seing a gorgeous bright one!

There are two “Northern Lights.” One is the familiar aurora borealis, the familiar shimmering curtain effect.

The other is simply a faint glow at night sky in the summer in northern latitudes, caused by the sun reflecting off the polar ice cap.
