Use your thumb and fingers to massage the kitten's anal region.Your thumb should be doing most of the work, acting like the mother cat's tongue when she licks her kittens' bottoms.
Step 4: There is a chance that the kitten has peed or pooped.
Keep massaging the anal area.The hand that is massaging the kitten's bottom will feel some warmth when the cat starts to urinate.If the flow of urine stops, you should check to see if the kitten is going to poop.The process should take about 60 seconds.If your kitten isn't pooping or peeing after feedings, you should contact a vet.
Step 5: A clean spot is over your thumb if you adjust the washcloth on your hand.
Continue massaging and adjusting the cloth.The feces will not get dirty if the cloth is moved now and then.If you are using cotton balls, make sure to dispose of the dirty ones.It is normal for a kitten's feces to be soft if they are drinking formula.The kitten will not form completely solid feces until it starts eating food.
Step 6: When the kitten has finished pooping, it is a good idea to clean and dry it.
Make sure the kitten's bottom is clean after it defecates.The kitten's bottom should be dry as much as possible by using a dry towel.It is important to make sure the kitten is dry and clean.
Step 7: The kitten should be returned to the holding area.
The kitten should be put in a box or cage with his/her litter-mates.The anal massage process is repeated with each kitten.You should use a fresh cloth for each kitten.
