J.C. Penney is closing six stores in Oklahoma in the spring.

J.C. Penney's initial list of proposed stores to be closed permanently was revealed on Thursday.

The department store chain, which filed for Chapter 11 protection, said it would close about 600 stores.It hadn't yet revealed which locations were going to go up in flames.

The proposal will be considered by the judge on June 11.Going-out-of-business sales could begin immediately if he signs off.They are expected to last between 10 and 16 weeks.

California, Ohio, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, New York, Texas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and Tennessee have all been closed.

J.C. Penney is reopening stores that were temporarily closed due to the coronaviruses.As of Thursday, the company said nearly 500 had reopened.
