A pool owner contacted us on Facebook to inquire about the legitimacy of Magic Erasers.I have used them around the house, but never in a swimming pool.No one at INYO has seen this scenario.We wanted to do more research on the Magic Eraser hype before we recommend it to pool owners.
The Magic Eraser phenomenon is thanks to Lisa Pack.Pack put a Magic Eraser in her pool skimmer to see if it would clear the pool.It did much to her surprise.Pack said that she put the sponge inside the basket for 24 hours.The water was clear the next day and the green steps were white.
Her post went viral.Pack was interviewed by news outlets and even Inside Edition.

It was too good to be true that we had never heard of using Magic Erasers in a pool skimmer.
The INYO Facebook page was flooded with questions and comments.Several different service technicians in Florida were curious.The theory behind Lisa Pack and the Magic Erasers was tested by the custom pool and spa mechanics in Stuart, FL.She and many of us thought that a Magic Eraser was the best way to clean a pool.

The answer to your question is no, we have not tested the products in pools, and the chlorine may react or interfere with the ingredients in the product.

The pool water's ph should be checked.You will probably need to add acid.If your PH is over 8 you should add a buffer amount of acid.0.02 liters of water per 1000 liters.Acid and Chlorine can be added in the afternoon and evening.You should keep the PH at 7.2 on a daily basis after the Buffer addition.
I had the same problem.I was having issues with the winter closing products.The pump ran for a week using 6 shocks, 3x the algaecide and 2 shocks a day.I used a clarified and vacuumed it up with the pump on waste.Its clear now.
