Old School Snapper Rear Engine Riding...

One of the first riding lawn mower I ever used was a Snapper rear engine riding mower. When I was a kid, my family used to mow their lawn with the rear engine riding mower. The old school machines were better than the push type that made for a long day mowing.I have used both.Back then, the rear engine machines were the best option for my family, even though they were nothing compared to the commercial machines I now deal with.

The mowers were tough for homeowner use.I am not sure how much work you could have gotten from them. The lawn care industry was not popular back then. There was no need for lawn care providers except for kids like me.People had more time to do yard work. The rear engine riders were popular in my area. They were slow. They were very slow. They were a better option than walking behind a push mower.

If I remember correctly, the rear engine riding mower was a "Comet" for many years. My dad didn't do a lot of maintenance on it.It was mostly used for our lawn. The blade should have been sharpened more often. What did I know when I was a kid?

The rear engine riding mower had an electric start or pull cord for cranking.I would have liked it if the cord had been an electric starter.Pulling a cord to crank her up was not fun.It wasn't hot off the showroom floor because it was a used machine.

The deck was an issue for us.I think it was well built for the time being. When the deck got dinged, my dad had to hammer it out so that the blade wouldn't hit it.That was not a good thing to happen. He was rough on our lawn mower, so that had something to do with the deck in constant need of body work.

I still see old school lawnmowers. They might still be in production.People haven't forgotten them at all.I talked to a friend the other day and he said the same thing about their deck getting bent up all the time.

We did well with the machines that we had back then. There were no mower shops on every corner. There wasn't a lot of online retailers to order lawn mower parts from.We used our old school machines the best we could. We asked neighbors who were shade tree mechanics for help with more serious issues.

Many products were back then. You still see them being used.If they are still slinging grass, that shows something about them. They are not up to commercial grade standards, but they would give modern homeowner mowers a run for their money when it comes to longevity.

What about you?Did you have a Snapper rear engine riding mower? Is it still running?I would like to know if we have the same good old memories.

I own a rear engine snapper mower from old school and it runs and cuts great.

They are still making them in the year 2020.The 1974 and 1986 have newer engines that I put in, as well as 2 s/p walk behinds. These are the best mowers on the market. It was very reliable. It's nice to have equipment that you can rely on.

I traded my 1992 Snapper rider for a 2020 one.I hope the new one is as good as the old one.The cost of the new one was justified by the years of service from the first.

11 years ago, I bought a 1985 rear engine mower off the internet for $150.It has been a great mower for me.I have been taking good care of it and will mow it for many more years.I like it.
