Refer to the Bible.

The bible and other classic works have different citation formats when used as a reference.Depending on whether you're using the Modern Language Association, American Psychological Association or Chicago/Turabian citation styles, the specifics are different. The student's version of the Chicago manual, called Turabian, is more extensive.APA and Chicago do not require a full citation entry in your reference list at the end of your paper.Instructors and editors may want one.

Step 1: You should start your entry with the version you used.

If you used italics, type the title of the specific version. The first word should be capitalized in the title case.At the end of the title, place a period. The New Oxford Annotated Bible is an example.

Step 2: The editor's name must be included.

The title page of the Bible has the editor's name on it.First name-last name format is used for the words "Edited by" and the editor's name. The editor's name should be placed in the following order. The New Oxford Annotated Bible is an example.Michael D. Coogan is the editor.

Step 3: Close with publication information.

The name of the publisher should be provided. You can type the year that version was published. The Works Cited entry should be ended after the year. The New Oxford Annotated Bible is an example.Michael D. Coogan is the editor of Oxford University Press.

Step 4: You can list the URL and the date of access.

If you accessed an online version of the Bible, your Works Cited entry includes the publisher's name along with the URL for the website. The URL should not have the " http://" part in it.Place a period at the end of the URL, then type the word "Accessed" followed by the date you last accessed the source. The names of months have more than 4 letters. There is a period at the end of the year. There is a new international version.Bible Gateway is a website.29/01/2019

Step 5: The version should be listed in your first citation.

Add a parenthetical citation at the end of the sentence when you reference the Bible for the first time. You can type the name of the Bible you used in italics. The book, chapter, and verse should be in regular style. The names of books are shown in the handbook. There is a chapter and a verse. The example is of a new international version.12.2

Step 6: For subsequent citations, only book, chapter, and verse is provided.

If you only use one version of the Bible, you don't need to include the other version in your parenthetical citations.Provide the name of the book, chapter, and verse. The full citation in your Works Cited can be found in in-text citations.Adding the name of a different version of the Bible to the parenthetical citation is a way to let your readers know when you've switched from one version to another.

Step 7: Pick out the version you used in your first citation.

APA does not require a full citation at the end of your paper. At the end of any sentence in which you reference the Bible, place a parenthetical citation with the book, chapter, and verse followed by the name of the version. There is a separate chapter and verse. The APA publication manual has abbreviations for the books of the Bible."In the same way, let your good deed shine out for everyone to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly father"The new living translation.

Step 8: In-text citations should include the book, chapter, and verse.

If you use the same version of the Bible, you don't have to list the name of it in your parenthetical citations.List the book, chapter, and verse."In the same way, let your good deed shine out for everyone to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly father"5:16If you were comparing translations, you would list the different version in the parenthetical citation.

Step 9: A reference list entry is required by your instructor.

The APA does not require a full citation in your reference list.If you are comparing several versions, ask what they prefer, or include reference list entries. The format for citing a book should be followed.Your reference list entry might look like this. The year 2007.M. D. Coogan is the author.Oxford University Press is in Oxford, UK.

Step 10: The book, chapter, and verse must be listed in a footnote.

The name of the book is abbreviated using the Chicago abbreviation tables. Then add the chapter, followed by a colon. There is an example of 1 Cor.If you're citing several books or chapters of the same book, separate them with a semi-colon.For example, 1 Cor.There were 13 and 15 minutes. If you don't have a copy of the manual, you can find a list of abbreviations at http://hbl.gcc.libguides.com/BibleAbbrevChicago.

Step 11: Attach the name of the version you used in your citation.

You should include the name of the version you used in the first footnote. The full name of the version can be spelled out or used as an abbreviation. There is no need for a period at the end of your citation. There is an example of 1 Cor.If you were comparing translations, you don't need to add the name of the version unless you switch to a different version.

Step 12: If you are asked to include an entry in your bibliography, you should.

Chicago and Turabian don't have to submit a bibliography for the Bible. If you do provide a bibliography entry, format it the same way you would for any other book. For example, your entry in the bibliography might be formatted like this. The new bible is an Oxford translation. The Oxford University Press was published in 2007.
