Some people go through a lot of menstruation in their life.Some people find them uncomfortable to wear, and they can get very expensive.The fabric menstrual pads are more comfortable to wear and are economical.They are made from cotton which causes less sweating and odor than regular pads.They could also lower the risk of toxic shock syndrome.They are easy to make.
Step 1: You can create a template with a sheet of paper.
The diamond shape has rounded edges.It needs to be 9 inches high and 8 inches wide.When you're done, cut the template out.The corners should be a little wider.They should be 212 inches wide.
Step 2: You can use the template to cut cotton flannel.
Pick something that you like and this will be the exterior of your cloth pad.You can use patterned fabric or a solid color.A pattern can be used for one side and a solid color for the other.Cotton fabric can be used instead of flannel.You can find lots of colorful options in the quilting and calico section of your fabric store.
Step 3: Put the two pieces together with your sides facing out.
The right sides should be facing in to pin the two pieces together.Use a 14-inch seam allowance to sew around the piece.You don't need to leave a gap because you will be cutting a slit into it.
Step 4: In the middle of the piece is a slit.
Make sure you only cut through one layer of fabric.The slit should be in the middle.It needs to be a few inches tall.Cut into the corners of the pad.Reducing bulk will be aided by this.
Step 5: Through the slit, turn the piece right.
You can push the corners of the pad through the slit with your fingers.Push the edges out with a pencil or knitting needle.The pad base can be pressed with a hot iron.
Step 6: The pad base has a topstitch on it.
A contrasting thread color can be used.You can use a zigzag stitch to make it look more interesting.Cut the excess threads as close to the fabric as you can, backstitch at the start and end of your sewing.
Step 7: You can create your template on a different sheet of paper.
A rounded top and bottom is what you should start with.The rectangle should be 212 inches wide and 20.32 inches high.When you're done, cut the template out.
Step 8: The template is used to trace liner pieces.
You will need a few pieces of toweling.Add a 14-inch seam allowance to trace two more pieces of flannel using the template.The liner will be made by toweling.The liner cover will be made of flannel.The flannel needs to be matched with the base pad.
Step 9: Put the pieces together.
The seam allowance is 18 to 4 inch (0.32 to 0.64-centimeter).Use a zigzag stitch to go around the edge of the piece.When you are done, set the stack aside.There are two flannel pieces in this stack.The thread's color doesn't matter.You will put this inside the liner cover.
Step 10: The flannel pieces have to be sewn together.
The flannel pieces should be pinned together with the right sides facing in.Use a 14-inch seam allowance to sew around them.Don't leave a gap for turning.You will cut a slit into the piece.
Step 11: Turn a vertical slit into a liner cover.
The same technique was used for the pad base.The slit should be about 10 centimeters tall.This will allow you to tuck the towel lining.The pad has curved edges.Reducing bulk will be aided by this.
Step 12: The towel liner should be tucked into the flannel liner.
You can slip the towel liner into the flannel cover.Smooth out any bumps.
Step 13: Place the liner on the base.
The side with the slit should be facing up if the pad base is turned so that the longer axis is vertical.With the slit facing down, place the pad liner on top.It needs to be centered and oriented vertically.When you are done, pin everything together.
Step 14: To secure the liner, topstitch it around the base.
The seam allowance is 18 to14-inch (0.32 to 0.64-centimeter).Cut the thread as close to the material as you can, backstitch at the start and end of your sewing.As you sew, remove the pins.A contrasting thread color can be used for this.
Step 15: There's another 12 inch inside the liner.
Make sure you are sewing 12 inch away from the topstitch and not the edge of the liner.You should use the same thread color.The liner will be secured further to the base.
Step 16: The wings can be added with snaps or straps.
You can use a tool to set sew-on snaps.You can use something else.Do not use self-adhesive Velcro.It is convenient to apply, but it does not last very long and will eventually come off.The wings will close on the outside of your underwear, so plan accordingly.
Step 17: The liner can be used.
Make sure the liner pad is facing up when you put it on the seat of your underwear.Put the wings under the seat of your underwear.The liner should last 2 to 4 hours depending on your flow.
Step 18: Make sure the liner is washed properly.
You should store the pad in a dry bag.Then wash it with hot water and detergent.Dry them in the dryer after a final cold rinse.
