Safe skin care and products to use while pregnant.

It is difficult and confusing to be pregnant safe. There is a huge list of pregnancy safe skincare products, as well as information on what ingredients to avoid while pregnant, in my guide. The list has grown so large that I am going to start listing brands in their own individual posts.

As of 4/30/2020, you can find pregnancy safe skincare products here.I will tell you why if it is not safe. All of the products are safe for pregnant women. If a new product is not listed here, please comment below and I will add it.I will link to every product. You will know which product I am talking about.

It can take up to an hour to review the ingredient lists of each product.I have a list of safe criteria for pregnant women.I review the US versions of the ingredient lists I get from the brands and major retailers.I don't have the time to review the same products over and over again, and many people have been rude about this. There is a list of pregnancy safe products.

The active clay cleanser and barrier defense booster are at Dermstore.

The active moist is Chemical Sunscreen and the age bright clearing is Salicylic Acid.

I include products with retinoids as they are a bit iffy.It depends on how conservative you want to be.Refer to my post on ingredients to avoid.

hydrablur primer, age reversal eye complex, and intensive eye repair are included.

Water/Eau, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride.Stearic Acid, stearic acid, and cocoyl Isethionate are included in the list.

Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Hydroxyacetophenone, Pentylene Glycol, and adipic acid are included.

I was wondering if you could review the tropic skincare range. The sun is dropping and the greens are great.Thank you.

Water/Aqua/Eau is made from ethylhexyl Hydroxystearate, butylene Glycol, cetearyl hydranoate, Cetyl Caprylate, Stearic Acid, PEG-8, Octyldodecanol, and Glyceryl Stearate SE.

I would void the ingredient list on the US ULTA website because it has a retinoid in it.It depends on where you are.It looks like it might not be complete.

That is not good!Thank you so much, I will avoid this one.I am in Canada and shopping at the dermalogica.ca website.Thank you so much!

Alright, last question! Is dermalogica active moist?Thank you so much!Since becoming pregnant, I've been trying to find new products.I didn't realize I was using unsafe stuff.

Water/Aqua/Eau, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Lactamide MEA, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Cetearyl Alcohol Stearic Acid, Glyceryl Stearate.

Is it possible to check the Sebum Clearing Masque?I was told by the staff of Dermalogica that it can be used in pregnant women. Thanks a lot.

Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Butylene Glycol, Polysorbate 20, and Salicylic Acid are active.

I reviewed the entire line and included the safe ones here.Salicylic acid is not safe during pregnancy.

Is pure light spf50 broad spectrum safe to use in pregnancies?Octinoxate is an active ingredient.Water/Aqua/Eau, Carthamus Tinctorius, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Polysorbate 80, Dimethyl Capramide are other ingredients.

Arginine/Lysine Polypeptide, Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan) Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract are some of the extracts.

This has a retinoid and a root. All of the safe products are included.

I don't use essential oils on my skin. The barrier defense booster was approved by you as being ok.It is difficult to make a decision when there is so much information.I would like to thank you for your review of the products.

There are a few extracts and oils in products.A small amount of tea tree oil on a blemish is fine.I wouldn't mix a lot of them together and spread them on my body, but in products it's ok.There are more ingredients to avoid in my post.

Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Coconut Alkanes, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Dimethyl Capramide, VP/E are some of the ingredients in water/aqua/Eau.

I was wondering if the new essence was ok.One of the ingredients I have never seen before is Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate. Thanks for your help.

There are ingredients Water/Aqua/Eau,Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Flour, 1,2-Hexanediol PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Propanediol, and Hordeum Vulgare Powder.

I would avoid the dipotassium glycyrrhizate during my pregnancies.I have never heard of the Piperonyl Glucoside, but it is included in the products.

Microcrystalline Cellulose, Magnesium Oxide, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate,Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate, Colloidal Oatmeal, Disodium Lauryl Sulfosuccinate, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran, Allantoin, Papa.

I'm there!Daily Microfoliant is safe to use during pregnancy because the amount of Salicylic Acid is less than 2% and you wash it off.Do you agree that it is unsafe because it has any of that ingredients?

All over the counter products contain 2% Salicylic Acid.Yes, it gets washed off, but there are usually some remnants left behind.SA was on my OB's list and many OBs tell patients to avoid it, but a couple of years ago ACOG put out a statement that they think SA and Benzoyl Peroxide are both safe to use during pregnancy. They didn't say anything before.I have them on my to avoid list because so many OBs were still concerned, but I agree with you that a rinse of product is different than a leave on product. We do not have actual safety data. The studies we would need to do are not ethical.I avoided both the site and when I was pregnant. It is up to you!

The dermatologica superfoliant is listed as safe.Lactic acid is listed as an ingredient in the USA.Is it okay to use lactic acid?

It is fine. For more information, please refer to my post on skin care ingredients to avoid during pregnancy.

There is a chemical sunscreen and an active ingredient that isn't safe.

Thank you so much!I like the shield spf 30 from Dermalogica. You have listed it as safe, but it also contains Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate. Is this safe to use?

I was not able to find the online ingredient lists when I looked. It's really sad.I wouldn't use it with the root.Good catch!

I was hoping to have your okay, I really love this sunscreen. Are there any alternatives to recommend? Thanks a lot!

I was wondering if you had any opinions on the ingredients in the Biolumin-C from Dermalogica.

I wouldn't recommend this for pregnant women, but it's ok for nursing.

Avobenzone and Octinoxate are ingredients in the Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50.

Water, Butylene Glycol, Carthamus Tinctorius Oleosomes, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Cyclopentasiloxane, and Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane.

It is ok for nursing, but I wouldn't use it during pregnancy due to the chemical sunscreens.

I am wondering about the product. The cleanser is ultracalming.Leuconostoc/Radish root Ferment Filtrate, Avena Sativa (Oat) and Cucumis Sativus are included in the ingredient list.

The willow bark is considered a salicylate and I would avoid it during my pregnancies. It should be fine for nursing.

Thanks a lot for your helpful advice. You are a lifesaver for us mom-to-bes.Your website is amazing.

Water, Butylene Glycol, Ethoxydiglycol, Lactic Acid, Salvia Hispanica (Chia) Seed Extract.

I wouldn't recommend this for pregnant women, but it's ok for nursing.

The ingredient list says that the product has malic acid in it, but I haven't seen it before.I am currently breastfeeding and want to know if it is safe.It is not safe while pregnant, but it is ok while nursing.

I don't remember if that was in there or not before, but it's safe for nursing but not pregnant.I updated the list.

Thank you!It might be different in the UK for me.When I received it, I looked at the ingredient list.It would have been a waste if I had not been able to use it while nursing.

I had a lot of products waiting for my delivery.Malic Acid is on the ingredient list.

Water/Aqua/Eau contains Laureth Sulfate, Lauramide DEA, Glycol Distearate, and Lavandula Angustifolia.

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, and G are some of the ingredients in Water/Aqua/Eau.

If you are on the conservative side, I would avoid this while pregnant and nursing.

Salicylic Acid is an ingredient.Allium Sativum (Garlic) is one of the ingredients.

I would avoid both of them while pregnant, but they are ok for nursing.

First of all, I would like to say that your website is amazing, and that I am so thankful that you are doing what you do!

I tried to see if you had already commented on the product, but I couldn't see it in the list or comments.

C20-40 Pareth-10, Saturated Bicarbonate, Magnesium Oxide, Olive Oil, Hydrolyzed Opuntia Ficus Indica Flower Extract and Retinol are some of the ingredients.

Are you wondering about intensive eye repair?Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, PEG-100 Stearate are some of the ingredients.

Ha!I swear on a computer that it all runs together.I am sure things are not in perfect order. It's much easier to create links when I use the.html code, but it makes it harder to see the names, and I know some things are in the wrong place.I hope people are smart enough to use the find feature in their browsers.

I was wondering if you could give me a review of Dermalogica intensive moisture balance face moisturizer: Water/Aqua/Eau, Ethylhexyl Hydroxystearate, Butylene Glycol, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate and Cetyl Caprylate.

Is Intensive Eye Repair safe?Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, PEG-100 Stearate are some of the ingredients.

I wouldn't use this while pregnant because of the retinoid. If you are more conservative, many would avoid it.

The lifting phase includes: Octyldodecanol, Diheptyl Succinate, Capryloyl Glycerin/Sebacic Acid Copolymer, and Pentaclethra Macroloba Seed Oil.The Firming phase includes: Water/Aqua/Eau, 1,2-Hexanediol, Adipic Acid/Neopentyl Glycol Crosspolymer, Glycerin, Chondrus CrispusExtract, and My.

I would avoid this because of the chemical sunscreen and willow bark. It's ok for nursing.

I am looking for a product that is safe during my pregnancies. The Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 Moisturizer is only suitable for nursing.I didn't see a moisturizer that I could use during the day when I looked at the list of safe items. Is there any other brand that has a mineral sunscreen and doesn't have the licorice root?Your suggestions are appreciated.

Unfortunately, there aren't many moisturizers with SPF that are safe for pregnant women.I found all of them in this post.

I have been using active moist in the first few weeks of my pregnancy, but it is not safe.I have only used small amounts so I am not too worried. When I am looking for alternatives, I use a simple replenishing rich moisturiser which you list as safe, but it has the same ingredient as why I shouldn't use active moist. Is the UK different to the US?Thanks.

It may be an international version issue.I only review products available in the US because most international sites kick me over to US sites. There is more info on using an unsafe product in this FAQ.

I used your website to find out if the Dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel is safe for pregnant women.I found a website for a beauty salon that said it was not suitable for pregnant women. Both the US and UK product ingredients are the same as I live in the UK.Can you tell me if this product is safe to use?I stumbled upon the other sight.Thank you!

My review of the ingredients is fine, but as there isn't a standard set of ingredients to avoid it depends on who you listen to.I am not a beauty salon.I have training in breast feeding safety.I am not sure what training a salon would get.I don't know what the product would have worried them.

Acrylates/Steareth-20 methacrylate Copolymer, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil are included.

I know that clearing skin wash is not safe for pregnant women, but the acid in it is only.5%.I saw that it wasn't good because of the root. Why is that happening? Is the biggest concern if we used the product that didn't get off right away like the age bright clearing serum and overnight clearing gel?

The Active Moist is listed as not safe for pregnant women because it is a chemical sunscreen, but there is no spf in the product. Are you referring to another one?

Water/Aqua/Eau, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Methyl Gluceth-20, Pentylene Glycol, But are some of the active moist ingredients.

Salicylic Acid is an active ingredient in the clearing skin wash.Water/Aqua/Eau, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate are some of the other ingredients.

When it comes to timing of ingredients during pregnancy or amount in the US, we don't recognize a gradient of risk.As the studies to determine if an ingredient is even safe or not unethical to do, the ones that would let us decide if 0.5% Salicylic Acid is ok but 2% isn't.We wouldn't be able to do it because of the many variables we would need to control. It doesn't matter what percentage of the ingredient is in the product, if it is there we recommend avoiding it.There is a discussion on that here.

My list of ingredients to avoid is pretty conservative, and discussion on salicylic acid and Licorice root are found here.I know a lot of other physicians who still recommend avoidance of silylic acid, even though it is now classified as something that is ok to use during pregnancy by ACOG, but that wasn't based on any actual studies or evidence.Licorice root has the same mechanism as hydroquinone/arbutin, but it is weaker in that regard. When some OBs were expressing concern about it, I added it to my list.Among my calls for ingredients to avoid are those two.Since I call out those ingredients in my product reviews, if you don't agree with me on them, you can still use them.It is up to you and your concern about the products during pregnancy.Talk to your doctor as well.

Octinoxate is a chemical sunscreen and is found in Active Moist. In order to claim SPF value, brands need to put a product through expensive and time consuming sunscreen tests to prove it.Adding a sunscreen to a product will improve its shelf life. They add sunscreens to non-SPF products because of that.I usually see ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate in everything from cleanser to night creams.

I'm pregnant and going to school for estheticians.I am very happy to find your page.I will use this a lot for myself and my clients in the future. We use PCA, Jan Marini, Cyme, and obagi at work.I was wondering if the amount was low enough to make the peel safe, since it was listed in the safe area.

The AHAs are contained within extracts and such when you look at the actual ingredient list.

Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) extract, butylene Glycol, Lactobacillus, Polysorbate 20, Panthenol, Potassium Sorbate, and Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit are some of the ingredients in water/aqua/Eau.

Hi!Thank you so much!I wanted to ask about my favorite balance. It is currently in safe products, however there was a discussion that it had retinoids in the ingredients.I didn't find specific "retinoid" names on the websites I checked.I wanted to make sure you were safe.

This happens when products are being reformulated. When you buy the product, you can see which version you get.

Got it!Thank you! What elements should I avoid? Will it start from the beginning?Or not?

Thank you so much!If this list of ingredients is safe, I would appreciate if you could take a look. I haven't found retinoids, but they might have some names.

I was wondering if there was a difference between the mini and regular, but the ingredient list didn't include the chemical sunscreen product you mentioned.

I don't know if they've changed or not, they mentioned things have been reformulated previously, but that wasn's not mentioned that I know of.The formula is the same between mini and regular.Unless the package reads differently, I assume the formula still has the chemical sunscreen.

I would like to know if this product is safe to use during pregnancy.Thank you so much.

C-Tetra® Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil is made from Cyclopentasiloxane.C-Tetra® Intense Squalane, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Dimethicone, Candida Bombicola/Glucose/Methyl Rapeseedate Ferment, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil are some of the

Hi!Due to chemical sunscreen, dermatologica active moist is not recommended for pregnant women.Since the product is not labeled with spf, which ingredient is this referring to?I want to be able to use that product.Thank you!

Why did you say this product has sunscreen when there isn't an SPF?The product was reformulated recently. The old and new ingredients have the same ingredient, but the new ones don't.It is possible that there is still some old floating around.

Water/Aqua/Eau, Behenyl Alcohol, Sorbitol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydroxyethyl Urea, Propanediol, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Glyceryl Stearate were all mentioned.Thank you!

Rosemary oil is not good for pregnant women and the conditioning body wash is on the OK for pregnancy list.I have been using this in my first trimester and now I am scared. Is it safe because it contains essential oils that are not allowed during pregnancies?I would appreciate an answer.

It's ok to use essential oils.It is possible to eat Rosemary in pregnancy, which is more exposure than a bit of topical.

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, C10-18 Triglycerides, and mango seed oil are some of the ingredients.

There is a professional version of the Biolumin C Pro Serum.

Water, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Glycerin, Polysorbate 20, and Saccharomyces Cerevisiae extract.

Water/Aqua/Eau, Propanediol, Vaccinium Myrtillus Fruit Extract, Saccharum Officinarum (Sugarcane) Extract.
