Sue Jones is an unfamiliar face, she is the mother of jazz star Norah Jones.

Norah Jones was born on March 30, 1979 and is an American singer and pianist.She has sold more than 50 million records.She was named the top jazz artist of the decade.She was ranked 60th on the 2000s decade chart by Billboard magazine.[8]

Come Away with Me is a fusion of jazz with country, blues, folk and pop that Jones released in 2002.It sold over 27 million copies.The record earned Jones five gramophone awards, including the album of the year.She sold over a million copies of her albums, including Feels Like Home, Not Too Late, and The Fall.They were well received by critics.Jones's sixth studio album, Day Breaks, was released on October 7, 2016.Pick Me Up Off the Floor was her seventh studio album.Jones made her feature film debut as an actress in My Blueberry Nights, which was directed by Wong Kar-wai.

Jones is the daughter of Indian sitar master and composer Ravi Shankar and concert producer Sue Jones, as well as the half-sister of other musicians.

Jones was born to an American concert producer and an Indian musician on March 30, 1979.[6]

Jones lived with her mother after her parents separated.Jones took piano and voice lessons when he was a child.She transferred to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing andVisual Arts in Dallas.She used to sing solo in the local Methodist Church.She played the saxophone in high school and sang in the choir.She changed her name to Norah Jones at the age of 16.[15]

Jones was fond of the music of Bill Evans and other "oldies".She once said, "My mom had a set of eight albums, and I picked out one disc that I liked and played it over and over again."[16]

During the summers, she attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts.In 1996 and 1997 she won the Down Beat Student Music Awards for Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Original Composition.[17]

Jones majored in jazz piano and sang with the UNT Jazz Singers at the University of North Texas.She met Jesse Harris during this time.The members of the band that she gave a ride to were friends of Harris.He stopped to see the band play when he was on a road trip with Richard.Harris sent her lead sheets after meeting Jones.

Jones moved to New York City in 1999.She started a band with Harris less than a year later and their recordings were bestsellers.[18]

Before becoming a recording artist, Jones was a lounge singer.She performed with Wax Poetic, Peter Malick, and Charlie Hunter before releasing her first album.There are 20 and 21 items.

Peter Malick states in the liner notes that he started looking for a singer who might be open to recording his latest songs.The singer announced the last song of the set as I walked into the Living Room.I was struck breathless by the song'since I fell for you' by Dinah Washington.There was a stunningly beautiful, blues infused voice here.This is the first time I've spoken to Norah Jones.Malick invited her to participate in sessions at Room 9 from Outer Space in South Boston, Massachusetts, during August and September 2000.Malick's songs "New York City", "Strange Transmissions," "Deceptively Yours" and "Things You Don't Have to Do" were recorded along with "All Your Love" by Sam Maghett.The album New York City was released by the Peter Malick Group.[23]

Blue Note is a label owned by the EMI Group.The signing was an indirect result of her being the lead singer for the band.Bruce Lundvall, the label's president, and Brian Bacchus, its artists and repertoire agent, were given a demo by Shell White, who was the wife of J. C.Hopkins.There were two jazz standards and a song in the demo.Jones had potential according to the two executives.They signed her to the label despite their doubts about the direction of her music.We knew that if she could develop her writing and find great songs, it would work.[25]

Jay Newland's experience in jazz, blues, rock, country, and folk music would give a feeling for her sound.Nine demo tracks were recorded by Jones and Newland.The first sessions had four people on them.Her debut album was the one that was set aside.Come Away with Me was praised for its blend of acoustic pop with soul and jazz.Debuting at No. 25.It reached No. 139.There is one on the U.S.The billoard 200."Don't Know Why" was a hit.1 on the Top 40 Adult Recurrents.30 are on the Hot 100 Singles Chart.Jones was nominated for eightGrammy Awards in 2003 and won five, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year, and Best Female Pop vocal Performance for "Don't Know Why".This was tied for the most awards received by a female artist in one night.Jesse Harris won Song of the Year for "Don't Know Why" while Arif Mardin was the producer.The album won an award.Come Away with Me was certified Platinum by the RIAA for having sold one million copies.It was certified a diamond in February 2005 for selling ten million copies.[26]

It was the first Feels Like Home.At least 16 countries.The album was nominated for three Grammys in 2005, one of which was Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for "Sunrise".She won two awards for "Here We Go Again", a duet with Ray Charles.Jones was named one of the most influential people of 2004.[29]

On January 30, 2007, Jones released her third album, Not Too Late.She wrote or co- wrote every song on the album.She said that some of the songs are darker than before.Not Too Late was mostly recorded at Jones' home studio.She didn't have a producer on her first album.Jones described the sessions as fun, relaxed and easy and without a deadline; Blue Note executives did not know she was recording an album.She wrote "My Dear Country" before the United States Presidential election in 2004.Not Too Late made it to the top.There is one position in twenty countries.Not Too Late had the third-best first week of sales in 2007, behind The Best Damn Thing and Linkin Park's Minutes to Midnight.It reached No.405,000 copies were sold in the U.S.As of February 2007, Not Too Late had reached gold, Platinum, and Multi-Platinum in 21 countries.The album has sold over 4 million copies.She sang "American Anthem" for The War.[32]

The Fall was Jones' fourth studio album.In its first week, 3 sold 180,000 copies.Her first album did not reach the top of the charts.It received critical praise in the United States.As part of the promotional drive for the album, Jones performed on Dancing with the Stars, Late Show with David Letterman, Good Morning America and other television programs.A St. Bernard is on the cover of The Fall."Chasing Pirates" was the album's lead single.13 on Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks.There are 7 Jazz Songs.Jones was the top jazz recording artist according to the 2000–2009 decade awards.The 60 best artists.Come Away With Me was the No.4 albums.There is a jazz album.The RIAA certified Jones for selling 1 million copies of The Fall.As of 2010, the album was certified gold or Platinum in 14 countries."Baby, It's Cold Outside", a duet with Willie Nelson, was nominated in the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category.Jones performed "Come Away With Me" and "Young Blood" at the end of the It's Only Rock and Roll press conference in San Francisco for the release of iTunes 9 and video camera-equipped iPods.

After working with Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi on some of the tracks for their album Rome, Jones worked with him again on her fifth studio album, Little Broken Hearts, which was released on May 1, 2012.She played the entire album at the festival.The most dramatic and rewarding departure she's made in her career was called Little Broken Hearts.She began her fifth world tour in Paris on May 25, 2012.She performed in London on September 10, 2012 as part of the iTunes Festival, which was broadcast on the internet.Her father wanted her to go to India for the first time.Summer's Day is a music festival produced by Only Much Louder.The tour began in Mumbai on March 3 and included stops in New Delhi and Bangalore.

On October 7, 2016 she released her sixth studio album, Day Breaks, which contained nine new songs and three cover versions.The album's lead single, "Carry On", was released to digital outlets on the same day.After dabbling in folk and pop for the last two records, the album marked a return to her piano.The goal was to do everything live.She said in an interview that there's no reason to overdub when you have great musicians.The soul is out of the music.[40]

Pick Me Up off the Floor was her seventh studio album.It was Jones' first album to not debut in the top three.

In the 2002 movie Two Weeks Notice, Jones made a brief appearance as herself.The film shows her singing at the piano.[41]

New York City was released by The Peter Malick Group and Jones."Take Off Your Cool" is a song on OutKast's Speakerboxxx/ The Love Below album.The album won the award for album of the year.Jones was the lead vocalist on the album of jazz interpretations of country and folk songs, Free Country.[42]

The Little Willies was formed in 2003 by Jones, Richard Julian, Jim Campilongo, Lee Alexander, and Dan Rieser.In 2006 and 2012 the alt country band released their first albums.[42]

Jones appeared in a special on Sesame Street.Jones was in the concert and DVD "Return to Sin City".Jones and the Rolling Stones sang "Love Hurts" after Jones performed the song "She".

Jones performed piano and vocals on a song on the Foo Fighters' 2005 album In Your Honor.In 2006 the track was nominated for a gramophone for best pop collaboration with vocals.

Jones co-wrote the song "Dear John" with Ryan Adams on the album Jacksonville City Nights.Jones played piano and vocals on several tracks on Ryan Adams' album in 2011.

Jones provided vocals on the track "Sucker" for the Peeping Tom project.Jones used profanity for the first time in a recording.48

Jones made her acting debut in a film directed by Wong Kar-wai.My Blueberry Nights was one of 22 films in competition at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.She wrote and performed a song for the movie.50

Live from Abbey Road was recorded in January 2007, by Jones.The episode was aired on UK Channel 4 and on the Sundance Channel.On November 2, 2002, and October 6, 2007, she appeared on Austin City Limits.The season opener was the last appearance.

Before The Fall, Jones was in a rock band called El Madmo and sang and played guitar.The band released an album on May 20, 2007.[51]

She recorded a duet with Q-Tip from his "Renaissance" album.

Jones sings the first track in River: The Joni Letters.Jones was a featured artist on this album, which won the album of the year award at the 50th Grammys.[52]

Willie Nelson, Jack White, Lucinda Williams, and Alan Jackson are said to have contributed to the "Hank Williams Project", overseen by Bob Dylan.On March 31, 2008, Jones celebrated the 20th anniversary of The Living Room with a midnight performance at the intimate Manhattan music venue where she got her start.She played a new song called "How Many times have you broken my heart" and explained that it was a song she was asked to put to music.Jones performed the song on Spectacle: Elvis Costello with...

"World of Trouble" was written by Jones for the Enough Project and Downtown Records.The funds from the compilation fund were used to make the protection and empowerment of the women in the country a priority, as well as inspire individuals around the world to raise their voices for peace.60

Jones has collaborated with many well-known musicians, including the Foo Fighters, Willie Nelson, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Outkast, Q-Tip, and more.When I get asked to sing with someone that I admire, it's exciting and flattering.It takes you out of your comfort zone when you work with another artist.It's like being a little kid and having a playdate, you don't know what to expect.On November 16, 2010, the Blue Note disc was released.61

Jones performed "Nearness of You" and "Painter Song" on the Apple campus as a tribute to Steve Jobs.She finished her set by performing Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" in honor of Jobs.[62]

Jones and MacFarlane collaborated on a song on Jones' debut studio album, Music Is Better Than Words.Jones appeared in MacFarlane's 2012 feature film Ted.She collaborated with MacFarlane and Family Guy composer Walter Murphy on a song that was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song.Jones and MacFarlane collaborated on a song on Jones' second studio album Holiday for Swing.

Jones sang three songs on the Holiday Special of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.[63]

Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide is a multi-platform media project inspired by Nicholas Kristof's book.[64]

In October of last year, it was announced that a duets album would be released by Jones and Green Day.The album, consisting of covers from the Everly Brothers' album Songs Our Daddy Taught Us, was released on November 25, 2013).Jones collaborated with her half- sister Anoushka on a song on her album.Three songs were contributed to the album by her.

Jones recorded an album with her country music project, Puss n Boots, which consists of her and two other women.The album was released by Blue Note Records.66

The 75th anniversary of Blue Note Records was celebrated in the Concert Hall of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with a performance by Jones.Jones performed two songs at the Newport Folk Festival to celebrate Mavis' 75th birthday.69

Jones sings "Don't Misunderstand" and "Fools Rush In" on Harold Mabern's album Afro Blue.She sang "Behind That Locked Door" and "Something" at the George Fest tribute concert in Los Angeles.Jones performed "Behind That Locked Door" live on the show.Her performance at George Fest was included on her album and film.70 and 72.

The song "Illusions" is from Jones' 2015 album Crosseyed Heart.73

Jones sang "Don't Know Why" on The Late Show with David Letterman, thirteen years after her first appearance on the show.Within two weeks of Letterman's retirement, the episode was broadcast.She sang "Little Bird" and "God Only Knows" at Brian Fest.[74]

Jones donated her voice to the end credits song of the film A Dog named Gucci.The song features singers like Brian May and Lydia Loveless.Dean Falcone wrote the film's score.The single "One Voice" was released on Record Store Day in April of 2016 with profits going to animal charities.75

Resistance Radio: The Man in the High Castle album, a soundtrack to Amazon's The man in high castle TV series, features a rendition of the song "Unchained Melody" by Jones.Jones worked with Danger Mouse on her 2012 album, Little Broken Hearts.[75]
