Take care of a budgie.

Budgerigars are wonderful birds that make great pets. They're the third most-kept pet after dogs and cats. This Australian bird costs little to keep, is happy in a home environment, and will try to copy your words over time.If you just brought home your first budgie, you want to make sure it stays healthy and happy. Step 1: You should buy a big cage. Birds need space to stretch their wings. If you care about their well-being, find a model that lets the light go through.Try to buy a cage that is wider than it is tall and has a square top.Budgies don't fly vertically like quails. It's a waste of space and money to have fancy-topped cages.A budgie cannot fly in a circular cage as it cannot stretch its wings. The bird doesn't have any corners to hide in, so it will feel scared.Your budgie must be able to fly.Do not place toys, perches or other budgies in the cage.Take a few cages and see if you can clean them.Is it possible for your hand to enter the cage?Is it possible to use a brush inside it?Budgies defecate every ten to fifteen minutes. If you decide to have more budgies, you should buy a bigger cage. Step 2: Take a bath. Budgies like to stay clean and defecate a lot. They like to go under water.A stable mini-bathtub made out of plastic can be found at your pet shop.It needs to be easy to refill from the outside.Don't put too much water in the bath. You don't want the budgie to spill water on the cage when he goes in the bathtub. He needs a bathtub that is roughly the size of the bird to immerse himself in the water.A bathtub is great for your pet budgie, but make sure it doesn't take up a lot of room in the cage, because they are sure to love it.Budgies don't need a bird bath if you spray some water on them. You can fill a clean plastic container with clean water if you can't afford a bath. You can keep the budgie clean by using recycled plastic. Step 3: There are different types of toys and perches. Natural perches are better than plastic ones. They look better.Make sure the perch is stable.A budgie's feet can be hurt by narrow perches. There are many toys.Look for things like ladders, bells, and balls.Your budgie will be stimulated by them. The wood should be safe for the bird. The lack of foot exercises can cause foot problems. It's a good idea to avoid perches and toys made out of Prunus trees. The oak wood has tannins and trees with milky sap. It's always better to be on the safe side when there are no confirmed bird deaths. If you must use concrete perches, position them at the lowest point possible as they are hard on the bird's feet.Don't give the budgie too many toys. You don't want to fill the cage with too many toys because the bird will feel crowded.Budgies should have toys in their cage for'mental stimulation', no toys can cause boredom which leads to feather plucking. Step 4: Think about the space. A warm room with no temperature fluctuations is the best place to put the bird.A light room and a room close to family activities will help keep your bird stimulated and happy. The cage should not be placed next to an open door or in front of a sunny window.Birds can be killed by cold drafts and exposure to the sun. Step 5: Feed your dog well. You should put your food in metal bowls instead of plastic ones as they tend to collectbacteria easily. You can purchase budgie feed from your pet store or grocery store, this will make up most of your birds diet, but you can also supplement it with other types of food.Don't feed your budgie chocolate, onion, garlic, alcohol, or human junk foods. These are harmful to the bird.Make sure the budgie has enough water to drink. The bird knows how much to drink. The water should be changed daily to prevent build-up.Add a bone. This is a good source of calcium for budgies.Mineral blocks can also be purchased.Liquid vitamins and minerals can be used, but they should be consumed through fresh fruits and vegetables. The bones contain calcium carbonate, magnesium, potassium, iron and zinc.Budgie health is dependent onuttle bones. Step 6: The budgie's cage should be cleaned at least once a week. The budgie will be safe from disease germs.Only use mild dish soap and water if you are sure that the cleaning products are safe for birds. You can mist your bird with a fine spray from a bottle. Step 7: A good place for your budgie to sleep. Throw a towel or blanket over the cage when it's time to sleep. You don't want to smother your new bird with too little air.Make sure the bird doesn't get its nails caught in the fabric. When it's noisy, this is helpful. Most sounds will be muffled by the blanket.Adding a night-light will make your budgie feel better.Don't let your bird panic. It might hurt itself by flying around the cage. Step 8: Keep an eye on its health. You should take the budgie to the vet at least once a year.If you see something strange with your bird, go to the vet as soon as possible.Look out for abnormal breathing, discharge from the eyes or the beak, mucus on the feather, weird poop color, and a loss of weight.Call the veterinary surgeon if you have any of these symptoms. Step 9: On arriving at its new home, make sure the budgie is comfortable. Give it a few days to get used to its surroundings.Don't rush your budgie. It will adapt on its own.Stay away from the cage.Don't try to handle it as you wait for it to adjust. You will get used to it in a few days or weeks. If you have other budgies, keep the bird inQuarantine for four weeks.Bring the cages closer if the bird is free from disease.Your budgie will get to know these new friends.Loud noises and screams are not advisable.Your budgie is likely to be stressed. You should name your budgie. It gets used to its new name if you say it a lot. Step 10: Gradually introduce your household. If there are too many people, your budgie will be overwhelmed. When you bring your family members, make them repeat its name.Feed the bird to get it to trust you.If you have a cat or dog, be careful.Cats and dogs can find budgie suitable for their next meal. The cat or dog should be kept in another room at all times.Dogs can get excited and hurt your bird at the same time. The budgie can be frightened by their bark. The children should treat the bird with respect. When a child has a new pet, they can get excited. They should be in the room when they look at the bird. They shouldn't try to grab the budgie or hit the cage. Step 11: Seek to win the budgie's trust. After a few days, put your hand in the cage.Don't move it for a while, just place it there. This will allow your budgie to get used to you.Put your finger inside the cage when the budgie seems okay.Push it against your budgie's chest. This will make it climb on your finger. For a while, do this.Feed your budgie from your hand.Put millet grains on your finger. The millet grains will stick to your finger. If you place your finger near the budgie's mouth, it will eat them. The budgie may think that this is a game if you bite him.Hold the budgie in your hand after doing this a few times. At first, do this for a short time. Step 12: During the first two to three weeks, don't handle the budgie too much. As it gets used to its new environment, start interacting with it more and more, and eventually it will know you are a friend and not a predator. The budgie may be a little anxious if you rush things. It will fail to bond with you because of this. Step 13: Treat your budgie with kindness and love. The bird is fragile due to the strength of a human hand and therefore needs to be handled with care.People should always be taught how to play with birds and handle them.Educating younger people is important if they want to play with the budgie.Human saliva is toxic to budgies and can carry diseases. Step 14: The pros and cons of a mirror. Adding a mirror to the budgie's cage can keep it busy. They like to look at their reflection and talk about it, but be aware that there are debates about potential psychological damages.Consider a second bird instead of a mirror.Budgies will most likely welcome a new friend. You may need to separate the two until they are comfortable with each other.A mirror can lead to crop infections with both male and female budgies. The needed feedback from a real mate will not be provided by a mirror.Make sure the mirror is fixed to the cage and doesn't pose a risk to your bird.Falling mirrors can hurt your bird. Step 15: Talk and play with the budgie a lot. Your bird will love interacting with you and the games. If it shakes its head in the same direction, it means that it loves to play and is very active. Step 16: The budgie can fly in a room. You can let the bird fly in a room with all of the windows and doors closed if you are at ease with it.If you want to call it back, switch off all the lights and the curtain of the window that is open. The budgie will be attracted to the light.Put it back inside the cage.Make sure the bird is safe.Look out for possible escape routes if the cat or dog is put away. When your bird is out, make sure to keep an eye on it at all times.Think about your hygiene.Your budgie is going to defecate on the floor. If there is feces on a solid surface, you can wipe it away with a paper towel. If there is feces on the carpet, scoop it up with a dry paper.
