The Benefits of Applying Linseed Oil to Skin is an Instructables topic.

When I finish my woodworking, do I get linseed oil on my hands?I like the smell.Correct me if I am wrong, but I'm told that the oil can be boiled. It becomes hazardous if eaten after it's boiled. Is it dangerous to the skin?Thank you so much!Neph P.S.I'm using a pure boiled oil.I added a random picture for you to enjoy.:D

The answer is to read the material safety data sheet. You can get suggestions to get to both raw and boiled versions if you type "linseed oil MSDS" into the search engine. You can find the links at www.sciencestuff.com/msds/C1990.html.

I don't know why it's called boiled, but if I remember correctly, boiled linseed oil has some Additives in it to make it perform like it is boiled.Go figure. It can cause cancer and birth defects. At fireman school, I learned that raw linseed oil can cause fires in piles of rags by drying out and giving off heat.Oily rags have a UN number 1856 and a hazmat guide number 133, so they can be considered a problem under the right circumstances.I don't know if boiled linseed oil has the same issues. The only oil you can eat is from health food stores.I don't think I would be getting a lot of other stuff. You have better double check my info because this is from memory only.

I made a bed for my toddler on pine that was sealed with digger raw oil, but I'm worried that it's toxic, and I don't know what to do.Thank you.

What do you need to know? There are three types of linseed oil. There are two types that go by the same name. You can get 3 different kinds of beef sausage at the store. There are 2 different kinds of beef, fully cooked sausages, that you can find if you get it uncooked. The kind of hot dog you might barbeque with for a good family meal, and the other, with all kinds of ingredients you feel better not thinking about, are the same.It takes forever to dry raw linseed oil.Someone took the time to boil the oil in a container and make it into chains. It is better at drying than raw linseed oil.The "boiled" oil you can buy in most places is mostly raw linseed oil, with plasticizers, hardeners, and heavy metals to make it act like true boiled oil without the time and effort it takes to actually boil it.It's safe to eat off of, supposedly, because all the harmful stuff is encapsulated by the oil and wont migrate to food, but I wouldn't use it on anything that would touch my food.

I used to use it to coat my wood carvings in the 70s and 80s, but after a while I got sick from the smell.I wanted to get into everything. There is a hidden danger in this day and age.linseed oil is self-igniting.If left to their own devices in a warm environment, the rags can ignite spontaneously due to increased temperature and chemical reactions between the rag material and oil.
