The electric fireplace insert has a remote.

Duraflame firelogs can be used in all types of traditional open-hearth wood-burning fireplaces and are classified for use in zero-clearance manufactured metal fireplaces.Duraflame firelogs should not be burned in wood stove or fireplace inserts that have doors that affect air flow. Before buying, check for the classification mark on the package.

The use of firelogs in fireplaces was not addressed in the tests for those appliances. The fireplaces were sold with instructions to only use natural firewood.Fireplace manufacturers have changed their product labels and warranty information to allow the use of UL-Classified solid fuels, such as duraflame firelogs.

The firelogs need air to burn.If the fireplace manufacturer's instructions indicate otherwise, leave the glass doors open. After the firelog is no longer burning, the glass doors can be closed. The fireplace damper should be left open until the ashes are cool.

If you are burning firewood or a firelog, you should always use a wire, mesh fireplace screen.

Adding wood to a fire is not something we recommend. The characteristics of the burn can be changed by adding other materials to the firelog. The duraflame® firelogs are designed to burn one at a time with a controlled burn rate that burns the external surface area of the log slowly exposing more internal fuel.Adding wood to a firelog can cause the log to break apart and cause a sudden increase in burn rate.If a flare-up like this occurs, flames can consume your fireplace creating more heat and smoke than your chimney is designed to exhaust; resulting in unwanted smoke potentially pouring out the front of the fireplace.Burning firelogs with wood could create excessive heat that exceeds the specifications of your fireplace because they contain twice the energy content per pound of firewood. We recommend against adding other materials to a duraflame firelog.

It depends on the product. The majority of duraflame® firelogs are designed to burn one at a time, eliminating the need to add more fuel or tend the fire. One regular duraflame® firelog can provide a fire equivalent to burning several pieces of wood because of the wax component. If you prefer to burn multiple logs at a time or add on firelogs later to extend your burn time, try duraflame OUTDOOR fire logs, stax® Stackable, Crackling Fire logs or Campfire Roasting Logs that are sold with multiple.Adding a second log to an outdoor fire pit or fireplace is possible with some products like Crackleflame® Indoor/Outdoor Firelogs. Before using, please read the instructions on the wrapper.

Burning a firelog results in less creosote than burning wood. When wood smoke cools and condenses on the chimney walls, it forms creosote.creosote accumulates in the chimney when unseasoned wood is burned.A tar-like substance can build up on the walls of the chimney when creosote accumulates inside.A chimney fire can be caused by a hot fire in the fireplace if this material is not regularly removed from the chimney.

Fine soot is left in the chimney since duraflame firelogs are made with dry wood sawdust.According to tests, a duraflame® firelog has less creosote than a wood fire.We recommend that you have a certified chimney sweep inspect your chimney on an annual basis and clean it if necessary, no matter what you burn. You can find a certified chimney professional by visiting the CSIA.

After extensive use, firelogs will leave a fine carbon soot in the flue. This material is not the same as creosote deposits.Burning firelogs produce less soot than burning wood. The tar deposits known as creosote are not produced from burning duraflame firelogs. The soot left in the chimney after burning firelogs has almost no value, so it can't be reignited to cause a chimney fire.We recommend that you have your fireplace inspected and cleaned annually by a chimney maintenance professional who is certified by the CSIA.

Crackleflame and outdoor firelogs have a patented, safe, all natural Additive that provides the natural crackling sound of a wood fire as it burns.

Store firelogs and firestarters are out of reach of pets and small children. They aren't suitable for human or animal consumption. It's best to keep pets and small children away from the fireplace for safety reasons. While burning, always use a firescreen.Pets and children should not be exposed to smoke that could irritate them if your fireplace is burning properly.Birds can be sensitive to slight changes in heat and air conditions.Pets should be far away from the fireplace.

We don't know of any ingredients that would cause a toxic reaction if your pet ate a small amount of our firelogs. The wood fibers in the product are hard to digest.Depending on how much of the firelog or firestarter is eaten, your pet may become constipated or have an upset stomach. If you have a small pet or the pet has eaten a lot of product, you should see a doctor. If your vet requires that information, click here to request a Material Safety Data Sheet.

Duraflame firelogs are not recommended as starter materials for a wood fire.A duraflame firelog has more fuel than is needed to start a wood fire.Duraflame sells natural wood firelighters, which are made from similar materials and are specifically designed to light wood fires.

No.Firelogs should be burned on a grate.Firelogs need support to assure maximum burn time.Burning firelogs on grates with parallel bar spacing greater than three inches does not provide adequate support and may result in log breakage, flare-up and/or reduced burn time.

No.Duraflame firelogs have a lighting process that works with the wrapper in place. To create an airspace between the firelog and the wrapper, pull the package seam outward and light the two arrows on the seam.In five minutes or less, the duraflame firelog should be fully ablaze.

No.Firelogs do not require tending and are designed to burn in a controlled manner.A firelog can break apart and expose more surface area to the air, increasing the burn rate and resulting in a shorter fire.A 6lb duraflame firelog will burn for up to 4 hours when placed on a proper fireplace grate.

No.Duraflame firelogs are not intended to be used as cooking fuel.Cooking is done by exposing the food to the heat generated by the coals, which come from the types of solid fuel used for cooking. Our regular firelogs don't generate enough coals for cooking.Duraflame OUTDOOR firelogs or duraflame Campfire Roasting Logs are better for roasting food over a fire.

Birds can be sensitive to slight changes in heat and air conditions because of their sensitive lungs and circulation systems.Pets should not be near the fireplace for these reasons.

Duraflame logs are designed for backwoods and backyard cookouts.Unlike regular firelogs, which are made to be burned one at a time, always start with two outdoor fires stacked in an X configuration and light the wrappers. You can add another log later to extend the burn time. The outdoor firelogs are tested and approved as safe to roast food over.marshmallows and hot dogs can be roasted with the special formula.

If you want to set up a real wood fire in an X configuration, start with two logs and propped one on top of the other. If you want to prolong your fire, you can add another log after 1.5 hours when the flames have diminished.Extra logs may be added to the fire, but never more than one log per hour. They are formulated to burn with two logs. There are instructions on the firelog wrapper.

Although outdoor firelogs can be used in indoor fireplaces, they are not intended for use in a wood stove. They need to be used in an open-hearth fireplace with a chimney that is free of obstructions. Before lighting the logs, open the flue. When using in a fireplace, you should start the fire with two logs and add one log at a time if there is a fire that dies down.If you add a log, close the wire mesh screen and leave the fireplace glass doors open.

Duraflame® OUTDOOR firelogs are specially designed and tested for roasting campfire foods like marshmallows and hot dogs.An independent lab found that the logs were suitable for roasting marshmallows.

Duraflame® OUTDOOR Firelogs have not been tested for this use, so we don't recommend you use them in your pizza oven at this time.
