The honeywell thermostat is reading a higher temperature than the room temp.

The room temperature is displayed in a way similar to how people sense temperature. The thermostat takes into account the temperature of objects in the room as well as the ambient air temperature. The room thermometers only read ambient air temperature so they don't match the thermostat reading. In the display, the thermostats do round to the nearest whole number and the temperature setting. If the thermostat is set to 72 degrees, the system will turn on and off, but the inside reading will never change. The thermostat display will stay at 72 to avoid jumping up and down, but the actual temperature did fall to 71 or up to 73, which is what turned on the heating or cooling.
