The local church should look and function according to the instructions given in the first letter to Timothy.Paul is aware that the end of his life is near when he writes the second letter.He is writing to Timothy again to encourage him to keep going.

We are made aware of Timothy's struggle when we get to verse 7.He had a spirit of fear.Timothy had a timid personality and Paul was encouraging him to speak the truth.

What does the verse say about God not giving us a spirit of fear?There is a word in the Greek that means "di-lee-ah".The word means cowardice or timidity.A person with a spirit of fear or timidity may shy away from proclaiming the truth of God's word.Whether it is real or imagined, this happens because of an impending sense of threat.

They are afraid of the consequences of their actions.The work of the kingdom of God takes a back seat when fear takes over.This person becomes paralyzed and powerless because they stop taking action because of fear.

When it comes to preaching or doing work for the kingdom of God, we should do it with courage and boldness according to Paul.In the book of Acts, the early church would often pray for boldness.They prayed that God would allow their servants to speak their word with great boldness, even in the face of opposition or persecution.You will take a step back if the spirit of timidity takes over.You will be able to do God's will when the spirit of God takes over.

The spirit of fear does not come from God.The character trait of cowardice or timidity is not a description of God.If you have the spirit of God inside of you, God is not afraid, timid, shy, fearful, or worried about anything.The amplified version has a verse.

God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice, but he gave us power, love, and sound judgment, which result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control.

Timothy was experiencing the same internal struggle as a believer.Fear or timidity will arise if you focus on your abilities or the potential threat that can come from doing God's work.If you are constantly being filled with the spirit of God, he will help you overcome fear.

The verse "God has not given us a spirit of fear" has been addressed so far.Let's look at what this verse doesn't mean.One of the things you will notice is that God doesn't tell people to be fearless.When you consider the circumstances, fear or timidity can be a normal human emotion.

One of the things Gabriel tells Mary is not to be afraid.I am aware that I have never seen an angel.Gabriel has never appeared to me with a message from God, but I am sure if he did, my reaction would be the same as Mary's.Fear is a human emotion.

Fear or timidity may arise if you are facing persecution, a bad diagnosis, an uncertain future, or are about to step out into new ministry.God doesn't want you acting like you're not afraid of anything, running around with a big S on your chest, and trying to be a superwoman.You don't have to be afraid.You don't have to fear it.

As you read through the pages of the Bible, you will often find God encouraging his people to not be afraid.There are at least one fear not in the Bible for every day of the year.God understands our human emotions and character.There are some "fear nots" mentioned in the Bible.

Do not worry, for I am with you, and I'm your God.I will help you and uphold you with my righteous right hand.

"For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you"

The Lord is my light and my salvation.Of whom shall I be afraid, the Lord is the stronghold of my life.

You are blessed even if you suffer for what is right.Peter said, "Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened."

Two sparrows are sold for a penny.Not one of them will fall to the ground outside of your father's care.The hairs on your head are numbered.Matthew says that you are worth more than sparrows.

At some point in our lives, we all have faced these types of fears.I'm worried about provision.Anxious about protection.I am worried about other people and what they will say.Is God able to help?I don't know if God will be with you.Asking if God really cares.At some point in your life, you may experience these different expressions of fear.God encourages us not to be afraid because he understands who we are.

At some point in your life, you may have to deal with fear.What is the proper response when this happens?I want to show you a three-fold response to fear.You have to cast, fill and trust.

The first thing to do is cast.Give everything that makes you anxious or nervous to Jesus.He is not against you.He is there for you.He is willing to help you in your time of fear or anxiety.All of that fear should be cast on Jesus when it hits you.

Don't get drunk on wine.You should instead be filled with the spirit.

The disciples overcame their fear by getting more.They were able to overcome their fear thanks to the power and strength of the Holy Spirit.The Holy Spirit that God has given us can be tapped when fear strikes.He is our comforter and will help when we are afraid.

Trust is the only thing left after you have casted and been filled.When I am afraid, the Psalmist says in the middle of my fear, "I will trust you."Don't freak out, learn to trust God through the process.Even if you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.God is with you and will not allow you to be overcome.He can be trusted.

Where are you?Is God calling you or asking you to do something that scares you?What does the verse "God has not given us a spirit of fear" mean?Hopefully you will walk away from this article with hope.Understanding that fear will come but also knowing that there is a greater who lives inside of you.

You will be able to overcome fear by his strength and power.He will give you what you need to do when he wants you to.Your job is easy.Understand God's promises.Get filled with the Holy spirit.Go and do what God wants you to do.You can do it with his power.
