The sequel to Flowers in the Attic is called Petals on the Wind and stars Heather Graham, Rose McIver, Wyatt Nash, Bailey Buntain and Ellen Burstyn.The second novel in the Dollanganger series is based on the 1980 novel of the same name.Cathy, Chris and Carrie escaped from the attic ten years ago.After multiple failed attempts and tragedies occur,Cathy decides it is time to take revenge on her mother.

The film was first announced by Lifetime.The first two books in the Dollanganger series, If There Be Thorns and Seeds of Yesterday, were aired in 2015.[2]

Cathy, Chris, and Carrie attended their adoptive father's funeral ten years after escaping from Foxworth Hall.They are still traumatized by their mother's betrayal and the abuse they received from their grandmother.Their grandmother, who had a stroke a couple of years prior, is now invalid.Foxworth Hall is going to be renovated so that Corrine can take full ownership of the mansion.

Chris is going to medical school, Carrie is in an elite high school andCathy is an aspiring ballet dancer.The two dancers meet and are attracted to each other.On their first date, he invites her to go to New York with him to try for a leading role in a play.The two of them admit that they still have feelings for each other and give in to their passion.They have to find other people to love and live normal lives.The conversation shows that Chris' child was conceived from their first sexual encounter while they were in prison.Chris says he can't love anyone but his wife, but he hopes to start afresh with someone else.

Chris started a relationship with the daughter of his boss at the hospital.There is a dark and abusive side to the man.She was threatened to kill her and Chris when she tried to leave.She was ruined her chance of getting her desired role when he dropped her during ballet try-outs.Chris sees her black eye when she sneaks away to see him graduate from medical school.After he shows regret for abusing her, he helps her get the role of Juliet by putting broken glass in the original dancer's shoes.In order to escape the constant harassment at school,Cathy agreed to let Carrie stay with her.During the ballet, Chris catches Julian touching Carrie and a violent confrontation ensues.There is a man driving and a woman going with him.The pregnant woman reveals that she is driving the other person to have an accident.Two people are dead and one is injured, but still alive.After the birth of her son, Jory,Cathy opens her own ballet school.

Alex proposed to Carrie after she met and fell in love with him.Carrie is unsure about being a minister's wife, but she is told to forget the past and look towards the future by her mother-in-law.Corrine denies that Carrie is her daughter, even though Carrie invites her to the wedding.The same technique that was used to kill her twin is what caused Carrie to commit suicide the next morning.Chris tried to talk her out of revenge, but it wasn't enough.She hired Bart to be her attorney because she wanted to have sex with him.They begin an affair after Bart was attracted to her.

Chris was pressured by his boss to propose to Sarah.On the day before the wedding, Chris admitted toCathy that he doesn't want to marry Sarah.While she still loves him, she wants him to move on with his life, as their relationship cannot lead to anything.The two end up kissing.Chris was fired from his job as rumors of his incestuous relationship spread after Sarah walked in and ended her engagement.

Chris wants to start a new life with Jory in California, where no one will know them.She is pregnant with Bart's child and intends to finish what she started.On the day of Corrine's Christmas party, Chris and her decided to sneak into Foxworth Hall to confront their mother.Cathy confronted her grandmother about her religious hypocrisy and abuse towards her and her siblings.She is told that she will remain "the devil's spawn" even though she can leave the family.During the party,Cathy revealed her identity and her mother's crimes to the guests.Corrine initially denies everything, but Bart is suspicious.Corrine insists that she never intended to kill or put the children in the attic because her father would have rejected her and left them out of his will.The pregnant woman publicly reveals that she was caused by Bart.

The children were put in the attic by Corrine.The children did not deserve to live.When Corrine opened the trunk, she found the remains of a person.Corrine set the bed and her mother on fire.The two people died in the flames when Bart rushed in to save them.They escaped and watched Foxworth Hall burn to the ground.

The Dollanganger family is living in California with Jory and Bart Jr. and are happily married six years later.Corrine is not competent to stand trial for her crimes.

On January 9, 2014, Lifetime announced plans to adapt the second book in the Dollanganger series.The book picked up after the events of the first, whereas the film would take place ten years after that.She started working on the script for the second film after she finished the first one.[5]

The adaptation of Petals on the Wind into film proved to be more difficult than the first one.She said that Petals has a larger setting, more storylines and takes place during a longer period of time than Flowers did.Containing the story within a contained time period was the biggest challenge.The film takes place during the '70s in the Southern United States.[6]

On January 28, it was announced that Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn would reprise their roles from Flowers in the Attic.On February 18 it was revealed that Rose McIver had taken over from Kiernan Shipka.Bailey De Young was announced as the new Carrie on the same day that Wyatt Nash was cast as Christopher.[2]

McIver stated that due to the film's rushed production, she only had two weeks after her first auditioning to practice ballet for her role, before filming started on February 25; this left her unable to read any of the books.She stated that both of the characters know their relationship is taboo, but nobody else understands them the way they get each other, and due to their trauma, it's hard for them to connect with anyone else.Nash believes that it's impossible for either of them to live happily apart from each other.It was [13].

Rose McIver was unable to read any of the novels before she was cast in the movie because production was rushed.McIver began work on iZombie immediately after filming finished.[14][15]

A new character, that of Chris's love interest Sarah, was created for the movie and some portions of the book, notably the sexual relationship betweenCathy and her adoptive father, were removed.According to the director, after doing incest, they decided they didn't need pedophilia on top of it.[15]
