The party planning committee drops the ball on the annual Christmas party in order to get everyone to celebrate with a traditional Pennsylvania Dutch Christmas.He plays a game similar to "Naughty or Nice" while dressed up as a Christmas gift bringer figure.The festivities annoy all the employees except Jim and Pam Halpert, who are amused by Dwight's antics.Jim left the party early to get to Philadelphia for his sports marketing job.After a "normal" Christmas party is started, Jim was hit with a switch by Dwight and he angrily left the party.Pam is sad by Jim's absence.After discovering that there is a 5 a.m. bus the next morning, Jim returns later, and both Dwight and Pam are happy.During the party, Jim gets very drunk because he forgot to include Philbin in his new job in Philadelphia.Jim was excited when he told him that he had arranged an interview for him.After being appeased, Darryl passes out and crashes on the table.

Pete Miller tries to memorize the dialogue of his favorite movie, Die Hard, while an impressedErin checks his accuracy using an online transcript.Ed Helms' character, Andy Bernard, who is still away in the Caribbean after sailing his family's boat, is going to stay for a few weeks.Hurt,Erin decided to watch Die Hard with Pete instead of listening to Pete say it.Pete tried to comfort her by placing his arm around her, which she accepted, as she began to cry while watching the movie.Toby Flenderson was on the case of the Scranton Strangler.She kissed him to make him stop talking after boring her for several hours.Toby kisses her and she reciprocates.

Robert Padnick has four writing credits for the series after joining the writing staff in the seventh season.It was directed by Charles McDougall, his first directing credit for the season.The first Christmas episode of the show was directed by McDougal.The fourth season's Christmas episode was going to be the basic plot of the episode, which was conceived during the writing process.The unfinished script was never used because of the Writers Guild of America strike.According to Greg Daniels, the writing staff wanted to use the premise for many years, but could never find a right time to do it, until the show's last season presented itself."I feel like I might be expected to say this because it is the last one, but I really love this episode so much," she said before the episode aired.I've always thought of Dwight as one of my favorite characters and now 'Dwight Christmas' takes it to a new level.The last Christmas episode was emotional and regretted not being able to have Mindy Kaling film a karaoke scene.The second episode of season nine did not feature Andy or Clark.Ed Helms, who portrayed Andy, left the show temporarily in the sixth episode "The Boat" in order to film The Hangover Part III, whereas Clark Duke left for a few episodes to shoot Kick-Ass 2.[11][12]

On June 26, 2020, it was announced that a scene where the character Nate Nickerson appeared in blackface as the mythical personage Zwarte Piet was removed from the episode due to the George Floyd protests.It was 13 and 14.

The office dislikes the idea of a warehouse worker dress up as Belsnickel's assistant, Zwarte Piet, and vetoes it, feeling that it is racist.Following the death of George Floyd, a scene featuring Zwarte Piet was removed from the streaming service.There is a picture of him and his brother celebrating Christmas and a version of the same photo decorated in the style of The Matrix.One of the German character's names was mispronounced by Jim when he was trying to convince the office to do his idea.The author of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."According to a fictionalized version of Creed Bratton, he wants a "Tapas Swiss Miss"-themed party for this year's party.The 2012 movie Life of Pi was based on the book of the same name.He wants to see the first part of Peter Jackson's 2012 film The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.Pete and Kevin made several references to the film Die Hard by quoting lines from the movie and eventually watching it.[20]
