The Star-Bellied Sneetching of America - Liberty NationTeaching Children Philosophy - The Sneetches.

Dr. Seuss wrote "Sneetches" to teach children about discrimination. He wrote a book about how different groups of people did not like each other during World War II.Children are taught to be fair and treat people equally in a number of the books by the author.German immigrants were targets for many slurs, and the family of Dr. Seuss was one of them.Ted and his sister overcame this ridicule when they became involved in the pro-American campaign of World War I.

The Butter Battle Book was written in 1984 and was on the New York Times bestseller list for six months. The Lorax was published in 1997 and caught the attention of both children and adults.Mr. Geisel was angry at the damage that was being done to the earth, water, and air.The Lorax is considered a classic because it deals with caring for the environment.

Ninety million copies of Dr. Seuss books have been sold. His books have been translated into more than twenty languages. His first book was called "And To Think That I saw it On Mulberry Street" and was written in 1957.Mr. Geisel wrote "The Cat In The Hat" after being challenged by his publisher, Random House, to write a better reader using a list of easy-to-read words.

He had a great sense of humor and was very private. He and his wife never had children because he couldn't draw.He said that he picked the brain of a retired thunderbird in the Arizona desert, but a kid could tell if you were faking immediately. He said that age had no effect on him as he got older. He said, "I climb Mount Everest as much as I always have!"

After reading the book Sneetches, there are two thoughts that come to mind: "The grass is always greener on the other side" and "I have a star so I'm better than you."The book is a perfect example of discrimination that so many people face today. Why can't everyone be treated the same? The Sneetches all looked the same except for the star on their bellies. The difference between them could create a big issue. It was going around in circles.I was happy to see that they all became friends and got along, it is just too bad that humans can't do that.Every child should read a book written by Dr. Seuss.Sneetches would be the award-winning book on top of all the others, because it is famous and not so famous.I think we can cure the discrimination problem if every person in the world learns from Dr. Seuss. Our differences make us unique. We can learn a lot from the cultures of other people.Everyone should accept each other even if they are different. One day, I'm sure it will be possible to end discrimination.Everyone has to learn the lesson of Sneetches and be compliant.

He was the editor of The Jack-o-Lantern college magazine.

In 1936, while on a vacation in Europe, he wrote his first book, "And To Think I Saw It On Mulberry Street."

During WW II, Mr. Geisel joined the army and was sent to Hollywood to make films about the war.

Ted was challenged to write a new reader by his publisher after Life Magazine reported the Dick and Jane Readers were boring.

Ted was challenged to write a book using only 50 words.

There were 75 thousand people at the celebration in Balboa Park in San Diego, and they ate green eggs and ham.

The Sneetches can be used with any age group from kindergarten to high school. This is a great example of how ridiculous discrimination is.The book is about discrimination based on belly stars. The stars are a great way to show a lesson to a child at an appropriate level. This is a touchy subject, but it sends a clear message to children kindergarten through adulthood. The Star-Belly Sneetches had bellies with stars. The Plain-Belly Sneetches did not have any.The stars differentiate one group of Sneetches from another and this makes them discriminate against the other group. They never invited the Plain-Belly Sneetches when they had frankfurter Roasts. They left them out in the dark. They kept them out of sight.Don't allow them to come near. They treated them that way year after year.

We must level the playing field in our classrooms as much as possible in order to set up a safe environment where the children can all grow and learn.Studies have shown that children who are placed in a gifted program perform better than expected. The reverse is also true.Self fulfilling prophecy can be seen at all levels. We as teachers need to integrate into our libraries for the children and the families we are able to touch because Dr. Seuss has focused on a subject that needs to be focused.
