There is a screen door.

Both wooden and metal screen doors are easy to paint. You only need a primer, paint and a brush. To get started, open your door and wipe it down with a cleaning solution. After applying a layer of primer to your door, let the coat dry completely and then paint it using a door paint. You will have a beautiful, freshly painted screen door if you apply additional layers of paint.

Step 1: Put the screen door open.

You can prop your door open by sliding the internal hinge or using a chair to keep it open. You can easily access the side edges with this. This makes it impossible for paint to get on your entryway or front door.

Step 2: Use a sponge and household cleaner to wipe down your door.

Put the household cleaner into a small bucket and fill it with warm water.Household cleaners are used for general hygiene purposes.Put your sponge in the bucket and wipe your door.Rub your sponge with circular motions. You use fresh cleaner when you dip your sponge into your bucket. This can be done for both wooden and metal doors. The same household cleaner can be used for both.

Step 3: If you are painting a door, make sure to fix any holes.

To fill holes and dents less than 8 in (0.32 cm) deep, use a spackling compound and a putty knife.Follow the instructions on your spackling compound. You should apply the compound directly to the hole from the container, and level off the surface by wiping a knife over top.Instructions will vary depending on what hole repair compound you use.The compound should fill the entire hole.

Step 4: Protect the areas you don't want to paint.

Stick the pieces of painter's tape to the spots you don't want to get painted.Tapes can be run along the outer edges of your door to prevent paint from getting on your entryway.Place tape around your door until it's all covered. You can use a drop cloth to catch drips. The surface of your door will not be damaged by Painter's tape. You can buy painter's tape at home supply stores. It is usually blue and called masking tape.

Step 5: You should put on a mask or a ventilator.

It's important to protect yourself from paint fumes. When painting the door, use a mask or ventilator.

Step 6: If you want to paint a wooden door, you should sand the surface.

Sand away ridges and even surfaces to get the smoothest paint possible.Sanding your door can remove paint that is thick. You can either use a non-clogging sanding sponge or hand-sand the door.Sand the door until it feels smooth. After you sand the door, you can wipe it down with a damp cloth.

Step 7: If you want to paint your door, apply primer to it.

New paint sticks to your door if you use a primer.Purchase metal-safe primer for steel door frames. Then, use a 2–1 in (1.3– 2.5 cm) paintbrush to apply an even layer over all of your door frame.Start by painting at the top of the door. Before you start, review the instructions on the container.

Step 8: For about 1-2 hours, let your primer dry.

You want to make sure your door is completely dry before you start painting it.Cool temperatures and high humidity can affect drying times.

Step 9: Multipurpose paint is a good choice for your door.

You should use paint that is made for the particular surface of your door. You can find a "metal" or "wooden" option depending on what your door is made out of by visiting a local home supply store. Some paints are great for metallic surfaces, while others are not.You can find paint for doors at most home supply stores.

Step 10: If you have a door, choose a few paintbrushes in the appropriate size.

The door frame can have thick or wide sections. If your door frame is narrow, use brushes that are 4–2 in wide. You don't want to apply too much paint to the door. It's helpful to have a few different brushes. For an extra smooth finish, use a mini roller.

Step 11: Put your brush to the door frame.

The tips of your bristles should be covered, about 4–2 in.Press your brush to the door.Work your way down the door by covering the top of your door frame.Continue painting until your door is covered. If you want the best results, paint in one direction. It's a good idea to avoid going up and down and back and forth.Don't dunk your brush too deep into the paint or scoop up too much paint. It may run down your door if you apply too much paint.

Step 12: The first coat of paint should be dry by 2 hours.

It is a good idea to let your paint dry completely between coats.Your first coat should dry in 2 hours or less.

Step 13: As needed, apply additional coats of paint.

You can paint another coat on your door after your first coat is dry. This helps create an even layer of paint. It takes about 30 minutes to 2 hours for a coat of paint to dry.

Step 14: You need to remove the painter's tape after applying your last coat.

Pull up the corner of your painter's tape and peel it away from your door when the paint is still drying. Some of the edges of your tape may peel away if you leave it on while it dries. When you lift up the tape, you want your paint to be straight.

Step 15: Wait a few hours for the door to dry.

It is best to leave your door undisturbed for a few hours after you have applied your final coat.Keep your door propped open.Leaving the door open will prevent smudges on the frame.
