The best way to remove thinset without damaging the surface is to use one of the main ways.To gently remove the thinset on delicate surfaces like kitchen walls and wood floors, use an angle grinder.Concrete and other tough materials can be treated with a hammer drill or a putty knife.You should plan to be very careful so that you don't ruin your home or hurt yourself in the process.
Step 1: The water should be poured gently over the thinset.

Step 5: Attach a chisel bit to your drill.
The gun has bits in it.Pull the collar around the bit nozzle and slide them out.Before using your chisel bit, turn the gun's rotation off.Wide chisels work better for removing thinset and help your work progress much faster.Refer to the instructions for your hammer drill for different routines.
Step 6: The blade should be placed at a 45 degree angle.
The front and back handles should be touched with your dominant and non-dominant hands.Pull the Trigger and run the chisel along the thinset in straight vertical motions, about 1 to 2 ft in length at a time.The hammer setting is where you want your drill to be.If you encounter stubborn areas, don't apply pressure to the ground.Most home hardware shops have hammer drills for rent.
Step 7: Decrease the angle of your chisel blade.
You can lock the bit at a specific angle with some guns.Make sure the rotation is turned off.Decrease the angle of the chisel, and then turn the hammer setting to lock it in place.As you move the tool, apply a bit of pressure on the stubborn areas.The angle above 45 degrees can damage the blade.
Step 8: A chisel is used to remove small patches of thinset.
The remaining thinset patches should be placed at a 45 degree angle to the 1 inch putty knife.To hit the end firmly, use the flat end of the hand maul.After about 20 to 30 seconds of hammering, the thinset patches should break apart.Continue using your chisel and hammer to remove the thinset.The removal of thinset with a hammer drill can leave small patches on the floor.To get rid of patches, use a hammer, chisel, or grinder.
Step 9: Attach a diamond cut wheel to your grinder.
If your tool has a wheel that isn't in the size range, you need to swap it out.Remove the plate from the wheel with a wrench.Remove the second plate, also known as the cup wheel, and you'll be good to go.Put the cup wheel back on, then screw the top plate back into place after you swap in your diamond wheel.The cup wheel is the best for this job.If you notice your grinder has a smaller size, you should swap it out for a larger one.
Step 10: If necessary, replace your dust shroud.
If the dust shroud is loose when you move it, you should install a new one.Pull the dust shroud from the grinder after you remove your blade and attach a new one.If you want a new one, swap out the circular plastic one.If you want to decrease its size, you have to sand it.Rub the outside of the spacer with a circular motion.It shouldn't take more than 5 minutes to reduce its size.After sanding, your dust shroud should fit.
Step 11: The grinder needs to be connected to a wet-dry vacuum.
The grinder has a vacuum hose connecting it to the dust shroud.It should pop in easily if you press it into the hole.The perimeter of the hose's seal should be secured with at least 1 layer of duct tape.Before you start the grinder, turn on your vacuum.
Step 12: Guide the grinder along the thinset.
Put your dominant hand on the back handle of the grinder and use your non-dominant hand to grip the front handle.Pull the grinder backwards by using your back hand.Hold the grinder steady with your top hand.Aim to cover about 2 to 3 ft (0.61 to 0.91 m) of vertical space with each motion of the grinder.Don't worry about going over the same spot more than once as you slowly move it to the right or left.
