What detergent to use in a new dishwasher?

A new dishwasher was installed today. The tech told us to use powder or thepellets which we received with the dishwasher. He told us to use 1/2 pellet per wash.He said we should use powder after we finish the gel.As little as possible.I'm just wondering what altruistic users do.

There are many threads on the dw detergent for Miele. This conversation has been going on for a long time among those of us who have had these dws. We've tried a lot of products. Results seem to vary greatly with local water and, to a lesser extent, depending on the way the dw is set up in that regard.

I have a 9 year old. They keep changing the names. The method Smarty Tabs uses whole to half depending on load and currently alternate Method was used before and it was too expensive. We're on a sewer so I don't want to use a tab with bleach all the time. The Methods do a great job.

The machines are designed to be used with rinse aid.If you don't want to use it, the best thing to do is call them and ask about disabling the dispensers.

The rinse aid is disabled by the Tab setting.Tab setting is used if you have a Quantum tab or another one with rinse aid.If you're using a Method, it's best to not enable the tab setting so the rinse aid works.I messed up with the Tab setting and probably used double rinse aid.

Soft water, excessive heat, and detergent are some of the causes of etching. We have a whole-house softener and things weren't adjusted properly, so even when I used a small amount of the powdered Cascade, there was still etching. The final rinse was too hot.It took less than 10 minutes for the person at customer care to reprogram me.No more etching.

If we didn't have a sewage system, I'd use the Finish Quantum all the time. The methods don't get the stains out of the coffee cups the way the Finish do.

The newer tabs caused trouble for the faux guy. There is no single solution.

The tabs are made by Somat. They are very similar.I use both the rinse aid and the conditioning agent every six months.

You can find the products on the net.Just searching on the internet.

I don't use rinse aid in our Diamond. The water is soft.My dishes are clean.I've wondered if it's necessary to use the Miele stuff, so this thread is interesting to me.There have been previous discussions about this.

The G 2470 model of the Optima is almost four years old.Gel or 2 in 1 tabs can be used in the control panel.I use a product called Cascade Action Pacs.Everything comes out clean.I don't pre- rinse the dishes.I do not use rinse aid.I like the pot and pan cycle. It works.

I use seventh generation gel and plan to try them.I plan to try a rinse aid.I was told by the tech to use less gel.

I use Method Smarty tabs.I use Jet Dry because I think rinse-aid is essential. The water is a bit hard, but it's not hard enough for me to use the built-in water treatment.

The Method Smarty tabs version is what I use.I like that Method Smarty tabs do not have bleach, and I don't want the smell of bleach in my detergent.I find that a half-tab works well for a lot of dishes. There are posts that say if you use too much detergent, you will get a white stain on dishes and glasses.Method Smarty tabs can be purchased on Amazon for less than at Target or Whole Foods.

I want to add to my previous post that Wilson had an excellent point, so I will second it.If you rinse, you will get an etching on your dishes and glasses since the detergent will have nothing to work on.It's a waste of water and an expensive DW if you are going to rinse.

I'm not an expert but I don't think that enzymes are responsible for etching on plates.Anyone with a basic knowledge of biology knows that enzymes are very specific in what they do.They do not just eat up food in their path. The old model of lock and key was used in high school.I don't think the same enzymes that work on food are capable of ruining porcelain or ceramic.

I don't know if it's the enzymes or not.If you rinse your dishes before putting them in the DW, you will be able to remove the shine from them over time.I'm trying to give a heads up.

I've tried a lot of different brands since I bought the Diamante Plus. There are some pictures in the link that you can see.

I only used 1/2 tab per wash because the original tabs did a great job.It made so much suds that it activated the overflow protection in the bottom of the unit, and a tech had to reset it.I told him that the older Miele tab was better, and that they didn't make suds like the new ones.

I tried the Finish Quantum with a red ball. They cleaned well and produced no suds, but the bleach in them discolored some plastic items.

The Method Smarty tabs were recommended by a lot of people here. All I do is use 1/2 of a Method tab and get clean results.I've been using them for over two years.Amazon sells a 6 bag case for $27.That's 120 full tabs, but since I cut them all in-half with scissors, that gives me 120 half-tabs, or about 8 months worth. You can't beat the price. They have a new one called "Method Smarty Plus", but the reviews aren't as good, so I might stay clear of them.

The Miele brand salt is used for the internal water softener. The thing I like about the Miele rinse aid is that it doesn't have a smell like some other brands. The red light was on when I went to the store to get rinse aid and salt.Since I told the lady what happened with the suds, she gave me a couple of Miele tabs, but I wasn't sure if the formula had changed since then.I tried a full tab that night and got the same suds the next night when I only used half a tab. They use the same formula that produces too many suds.Since that store had several working dishwashers, I've seen them in action, fully loaded, and using the same amount of suds in them as I get at home.

Did anyone confirm that the tabs are made by Somat? They used to be made in Germany by a Swiss company called Claro, but now they are made by Dalli, a company that supplies various cleaning products.

The dishes were even cleaner after I got a couple of Miele tabs and Zowie, I was sold and figured I would use them all the time.I just used the Miele conditioner and it looks brand new, I will save the little bottle and try the Appliance Doctor Tang trick next round.

I think the etching comes from not cleaning enough vs the enzymes but not a chemistry major, the newer dishwashers need dirt to clean or they shut off too soon.

If you haven't seen this video before, I use it in some of my training classes if the class needs a pick up.What not to do with an iPad?!

Claro made the old Miele tabs. There are new ones by Dalli.Claro is still made with rinse aid and salt.I'm not a fan of the current tabs.I've had the best luck with Somat powder. It should have 30% phosphorous in the formula. The powder is a second long.I'm using the new cascade platinum pacs in La Perla II with good results so far.

I didn't think the Somat brand was available in the US.Someone said before they had a friend in Germany that they would send them the new tabs.

I will have to check it out.I will have to click to see if the powder and tabs are available.

The only detergent that takes the brown stains out of my mugs from tea staining is the one that comes with the One Finish Quantum tab.

I bought a dishwasher from Miele last year.I tried the tabs with the red dot, but now use the liquid.I like using the liquid better and both seem to clean the same.

I was told to use powder when I got the Futura Dimension.I use powder Cascade because I was discouraged from using action-tabs type of detergent.

I use jet dry or cascade as a rinse agent.I get the "refill rinse" warning on the panel at least once a month, but it seems like it is constant.

You need to adjust the rinse aid dispensers after reading your instruction book. There is a setting of 0-6, where 0 is off, 3 is the default amount of 3ml, and 6 the max of 6ml.I adjusted it to 2, and then to 1.I use the 1ml setting for 2 years and only refill it every 3-4 months.A setting of 3-6 made some glasses feel sticky.

I don't know about the rinse-aid dispenser adjustment, but I have had my DW Miele all this time. There it is, after I checked mine.I have had this for several years and it has been set to 3.One of the reasons I use the cheap Jetdry is because I had to refill rinse-aid too often.I will experiment with the settings to 2 and to 1.You made my day!

I turned off the rinse aid since I have been using the Miele tabs, but what to do with the bottles I got on?

When the wash looks dirtier than usual, I use half Method Smarty tabs.

The center of the known universe is very close to the equator and is difficult to break the news to.

For the past 2 years, I have been using Finish tabs in my car.I tried to switch to Ecover powder because I wanted something more eco-friendly, and while the dishes came out clean, it appears to have killed my machine.I think we had a problem with sudsing.

I use powdered Cascade from Sam's Club.A box lasts me for about six months.I need to see if I can adjust the rinse aid.Maybe it's just getting used up, because that machine runs a minimum of twice a day. That's right.

I see where others use one Teaspoon, but I don't use a lot of Cascade.Does anyone else use a small amount of water to get good results?I'm sure the dirt will get knocked off the dishes, but are they really clean if you don't use enough detergent? How does one know if I can get by with less?I'm already using less than the instructions say.

Even the default with all that rinse aid doesn't leave the glasses perfectly clear, so I will have to continue with the rinse-aid-feast.I might try to raise it.Thanks for the tip.

The new dishwasher we use is from Miele. The tech told us to use a different type of device. The full tab is excellent.

I rinse our dishes and service ware lightly before putting them in the rack.Sometimes our glassware comes out smelling like wet dog, not every wash.1/2 tab Melie tabs are used. Before I start the cycle, I make sure the water is hot.
