I fitted a new tap and waste outlet to a small basin because the plastic pipework no longer reaches, I can force the parts to mate, but I don't like having the pipe under a lot of strain.

I am considering cutting off the white-painted down-pipe and using a solvent-weld straight coupling to raise the pipework by about 1 cm.

The outside diameter of the pipe is 36mm.The pipes are either 32 or 40mm.

The outside diameter of the plastic waste pipe is 34.5mm.Is this the right pipe?

You might be able to get away with only buying a similar one if you only need a couple of millimeters.

Make sure you have a snug dry fit in the store by taking the cut piece with you. It's not necessary to figure out the exact diameter. You just have to buy the piece that fits.

You can't use solvent-weld fittings on push-fit pipe because of the difference in diameter.I think this is a way to stop people from using solvent to make a pipe that won't melt.
