Who founded GVI?
This week, we decided to sit down and interview GVI's founder Richard Walton. Richard started GVI way back in 1997 after spending some time volunteering abroad he decided he wanted to help more young people around the world make a sustainable, long-term difference in places where it is needed the most.
How much do volunteer trips cost?
After crunching some mad numbers, we found that the average cost of volunteering abroad worldwide was $688 per week. It should be noted that some programs require you spend at least two weeks volunteering, so that number could fluctuate depending on the program and country you choose.23 may 2019
Why is IVHQ so cheap?

Do you have to pay for GVI?
GVI's program fees cover housing and food as well as training for all volunteers and interns that sign up to our programs. Covering the cost of your own basic expenses means you can make a greater contribution to the community partners you'll be working with.
Why do you have to pay to volunteer abroad?
By contributing to a project as a paying volunteer, you are helping to support local people, and ensure that programs are efficient and beneficial in the long run. You are also investing in your own training and development, so you can continue making changes in the world long after you've finished your program.
How old do you have to be to volunteer at GVI?
The minimum age is 18, and there is no maximum. If you are age 15-17, please visit GVI Foundations to learn about programs designed for your age group. We are happy to talk through the ages of those booked on to the expedition, internship or project you are interested in, just give us a call!
