Hyoscine-N-butylbromide + Paracetamol (Buscopan Plus) is an antispasmodic-analgesic combination used for the relief from the pain of stronger abdominal cramps including menstrual cramps and urinary tract spasm.
What is the difference between buscopan and buscopan plus?
What's the difference between Buscopan products? Buscopan Cramps and Buscopan IBS Relief are essentially identical. The tablets in each contain the same active ingredient (hyoscine butylbromide) and in the same strength (10mg).
When should you not take buscopan?
- You are allergic (hypersensitive) to hyoscine butylbromide or any of the other ingredients (listed in section 6)
- You have glaucoma (an eye problem)
- You have something called 'myasthenia gravis' (a very rare muscle weakness problem)
- You have a suspected or confirmed blockage of the bowel.
How long does buscopan plus last?
The effect of Buscopan Plus Tablet can be observed within 1 hour of taking the dose orally. The average time for which Buscopan Plus Tablet shows its effect is 6 hours.12 Oct 2021
Use of Buscopan Plus Tablet may cause symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, blurred vision, etc. It is advised that you do not perform activities such as driving vehicles or operating machines if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.12 Oct 2021
What is the difference between buscopan cramps and buscopan IBS?
Whilst they both contain the same active ingredient, hyoscine butylbromide, Buscopan® IBS Relief is for medically confirmed IBS and has a variable dose to allow for mild to severe flare ups. Buscopan® Cramps is for general abdominal cramps, it has a fixed dose and is only available from behind the pharmacy counter.
Is it OK to take Buscopan everyday?
The usual dose of Buscopan for symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) diagnosed by a doctor in adults and children aged 12 years and over is 1 tablet, taken 3 times a day. You can increase this to 2 tablets, taken 4 times a day if needed.
How long does Buscopan take to leave your system?
Following oral administration of single doses in the range of 100 to 400 mg, the terminal elimination half-lives ranged from 6.2 to 10.6 hours. The main metabolic pathway is the hydrolytic cleavage of the ester bond. Orally administered hyoscine butylbromide is excreted in the faeces and in the urine.
Can Buscopan make you sick?
When to take Buscopan Buscopan does not usually upset your stomach, so you can take it with or without food. Only take Buscopan IBS Relief if a doctor has confirmed that you have IBS.
Can Buscopan be harmful?
It happens rarely, but some people may have a serious side effect when taking Buscopan. Stop taking Buscopan and call a doctor straight away if you: get a painful red eye with loss of vision (this could be caused by increased pressure in your eye)
Is Buscopan safe for hypertension?
Buscopan Ampoules can cause tachycardia, hypotension and anaphylaxis, therefore use with caution in patients with cardiac conditions such as cardiac failure, coronary heart disease, cardiac arrhythmia or hypertension, and in cardiac surgery. Monitoring of these patients is advised.
Can you take Buscopan If you are over 40?
You are 40 years or over and it is some time since your last attack of IBS or the symptoms are different this time. You have recently passed blood from the bowel. You have severe constipation.
