What is the difference between Gel and Ointment?

Gels are sometimes referred to as Jellies.Drug dosage forms are semisolid, transparent and non-greasy.It is possible to apply the Gels to the skin, vaginally, or rectally.Gels are semisolid materials consisting of dispersions of small or large molecule in an aqueous base and Gelling agents are used synthetic macro-molecules.

There are two types of Gels.Below is a brief description of them.

1.The macro-molecules are uniformly distributed throughout the liquid with no apparent boundaries between them.

By reducing the continuous phase, by cross-linking the dispersed molecule, and by changing the pH.The preparation of Gels.

Semi-solid preparations of hydrocarbons includeparaffins, petrolatum, mineral oil, synthetic hydrocarbons, etc. There is a yellow paraffin base.Ointments are greasy and macerating.Ointments are semisolid preparations intended for external application to the skin.
