A one-piece steel shaft can't be longer than 72″ from the center of the u-joint at one end to the center of the u-joint at the other end. If you have need for a driveline to be longer than 72″, it can be converted to a 2-piece driveshaft or built using aluminum tubing.
Can a drive shaft be rebalanced?
Dented drive shafts cannot be rebalanced, they need to be replaced. Fortunately, you can fix minor imbalances by balancing the drive shaft, a procedure that requires minimal parts --- only hose clamps.
How do you measure a drive shaft?
- End yoke to end yoke (Measure from the center of one U-Joint to the center of the other U-Joint)
- Spline to end yoke (Measure from the tip of the spline to the center of the U-Joint)
- Flange to flange (Measure from the face of the first flange to the face of the 2nd Flange)
