Is a 8.0 skateboard good for beginners?
To start with, we recommend a deck width of 7.75" or 8.0". Is an 8 skateboard small?
The 8' skateboard is one of the most ridden sizes. It's the perfect deck for the average recreational adult. Bigger templates, like the 8.5'' are a good option for catching flip tricks and provide more stability. They're heavy skateboards.
Skateboard size chart for kids, my chart is different than most out there because of my personal experience. Anything between a width of 7.5″ and 8.0″ is fine for kids aged 6 years and older. Don't buy into the hype!

Does it matter if your trucks are smaller than your deck?
Make sure the trucks you pick are the right size for your deck. The axles shouldn't stick out and your deck shouldn't be wider than your trucks. Now, it doesn't really matter if they don't match your deck perfectly. In general, just makes sure the axle width matches your deck's width.
Can you use 8.25 trucks on 8.5 deck?
You can also "pad out" an 8.25" truck by putting washers behind your wheels to take up the extra space on the axle, moving the wheel further out towards the edge of the deck. You can't, however, bring the wheels in on an 8.5" truck not without a lathe, anyway.
