What wire do I use for a 240 hot tub?
A large portion of 240V spas manufactured today require a 50 amp 4-wire electrical service. Some hot tubs have load requirements of 30A or 40A, and a few even 60A. These requirements correspond to the size of the new feed circuit breaker installed in the house service panel.
What size wire do I need for a 220 hot tub?
All 220v spas require a 4 wire connection from your main circuit breaker panel. There must be a GFCI disconnect breaker panel at least 5′ from spa and within line of site of spa. Most spas will run effectively on a 50amp 2 pole main circuit breaker. Some spa manufacturers require a 60amp breaker.

How big of wire do I need for a hot tub?
Avoid using aluminum for hot tub wiring. Instead, use size 6 AWG copper wire with THHN (thermoplastic nylon) insulation. Use fish tape to pull the wires through the conduit from the fitting to the spa panel. As you pull the wires through the conduit, leave 6 inches of extra wire hanging from all ends.
