Which medicine is best for gas and acidity?
Simethicone helps break up gas bubbles in the gut. Aluminum and magnesium antacids work quickly to lower the acid in the stomach. Liquid antacids usually work faster/better than tablets or capsules. This medication works only on existing acid in the stomach.
When should I take gastric medicine?
As a general rule, medicines that are supposed to be taken on an empty stomach should be taken about an hour before a meal, or 2 hours after a meal.
While antacids can help alleviate heartburn symptoms, it's usually only meant to be used on an as-needed (and not daily) basis. You're more likely to take a combination of antacids and other medications to not only treat heartburn symptoms, but to prevent them in the first place.
