Gregory "Greg" Williams Yates was a prime suspect in a series of rapes, kidnappings, and murders in New York, Illinois, North Carolina, New Orleans and New Jersey.
Yates was born to Michael and Susan Williams.He killed animals and set his home on fire when he was young.Yates was given away for adoption by his parents when Susan got pregnant with his sister.Michael drove him to North Carolina, where he was adopted by another family.
Yates hated his mother and all other women because he thought she had abandoned him.He attended medical school at Duke University.Susie Frain was a freshman when he met her.The couple got to know Carl Rudnick and his girlfriend.Yates became a surgeon after graduating together.After Yates accepted a job as a professor at Columbia University, Yates and Susie decided to move to New York.
He kidnapped, raped, and murdered a pregnant woman.He took advantage of the move to bury her in a forest near a beach in New York City.Rudnick became an attending surgeon after obtaining a residency at Presbyterian Hospital.Yates continued to rape and kill women while burying them.He raped and murdered two nurses after being investigated by detectives.Yates killed them and then burned their bodies to eliminate any evidence of their crimes.He kidnapped, raped, and murdered another nurse, but unlike the other two, he buried her along with his other victims on the beach.After raping and killing women wherever he went, he moved the bodies to New York to be buried.

Yates takes Nadia on a road trip all the way back to New York City, wrapping her in green plastic and changing her license plates at a rest stop in Indiana.He sings along to music on the road as he drives.Yates stops at a gas station in Reynoldsville, Pennsylvania, and buys supplies and green nail polish.He helps the mother with her items while he pays for them.He watches as they leave.He left the store and was approached by a truck driver who told him that something was moving in the backseat.Yates claims that he kidnapped a girl who was resisting violently and that it was his dog.After the man walks away, he gets into the car and threatens to knock her out again if she continues resisting.Yates said that she missed her chance at doing that and told her about the trucker, even though he is still nearby.Yates cranks the radio volume up again and tauntingly tells her that she should tell him something about herself as they have a long drive ahead of them.
As Yates makes another stop in New Jersey, he tells Nadia that they will arrive in NYC soon.Yates is not deterred by the fact that Sergeant Hank Voight will make him regret killing her in the first place.He forced her to change cars when they arrived at New York.He rapes, tortures, and murders Nadia and buries her in his burial ground.He rapes a pair of roommates and then kills one of them and puts the other in a coma in an apartment.Yates is tracked down to Susie's house after he proposed to her, but he doesn't know what Voight is talking about.He claimed in interrogation that he went to the Chicago precinct but found only one person, who offered to take him to New York.Detective Jay Halstead was frustrated by the fact that he claimed that Nadia looked up to him and wanted to escape.He made statements as if they were rhetorical guesses and taunting Voight.

Susie was asked to find a photo of Rudnick posing as Lena to prove the theory that he was a suspect.Yates told Susie to use the photo to blackmail Rudnick.Rudnick kills Susie.Yates gets concerned when he doesn't get a call from Susie as he expected.When he calls Yates, he asks if Rudnick is still in prison.Yates realized what happened when she told him he made bail.The police find Susie's dismembered body washed up on the shore.He wants them to look at her body and see if she is pregnant."Devil's Dissections" is a show on the SVU.

On the day after, he walks in during a prison group therapy session held by Freed and intimidates Jose Silva into allowing him to be partners with Rudnick, who is also a member.Yates implies that Freed has been bringing tools to Rudnick when he talks about trays of lasagna brought in.Detective Carisi arrives at Green Haven to question him.Yates tried to ask if she is breastfeeding, but was shot down by Carisi.He was shown a photo of the victim and was given details of her murder under the guise of speaking hypothetically.He is willing to give more information if he is transferred to the facility's honor block.The SVU thought it was a ploy to get Yates to kill Rudnick in order to avenge Susie's death.Yates passed Rudnick's cell, saw his tray of lasagna, and called Freed a miracle worker during his transfer.When Rudnick's miracle occurs, he warns him that he will be there.
When Sergeant Mike Dodds arrives at Green Haven to visit Yates, drones suddenly appear and cause a small prison riot.Rudnick takes Yates with him when he creates a hole in the wall of his cell with the tools he got from Freed.They crawl through a pipe leading out of the prison, where they kill two electrical workers who aided Rudnick, then Yates leaves a taunting note for the SVU to find.Freed provides the two with weapons after they rendezvous with her.Yates told Rudnick to kill her after he gags her.Rudnick does not do it and just fakes her death.
