Not sure about many people from Montreal moving to Edmonton, but if it is so…there are many reasons.Cost of living is pretty low.Our housing is still affordable.
We have a wonderful climate in the summer…yes, our winters are cold but not humid. We have a great educational system and our hospitals were leading edge in many areas. We tend to be a boom or bust economy dependent on oil…but that has given Albertans a good standard of living.
We are close to the beautiful Rocky Mountains.Edmonton is very community minded. It is a great place to raise a family.
We also are welcoming of different cultures. We have a vibrant art and volunteer community.Welcome if you come!!!
Actually Edmonton was very attractive when the oil patch was working at full capacity now some people from Alberta are moving to Quebec to get jobs.I haven’t been to Alberta in years the 70s to be exact but from what I understand Edmonton is a growing city unfortunately with a pipeline being canceled or at least on hold It is hurting It’s really a shame because so much of Albert money Has gone to Quebec and other places in Canada as equalization payments.
People move for a variety of reasons, most move to Alberta for school, tech, or energy industry. One thing about Edmonton most people dont know is that Edmonton has the largest number of people that can speak French outside Quebec and New Brunswick. The U of A has a French campus in the French quarter.
Their jobs, the refinery (shell) closed few years ago so lots of people moved here because of that for their jobs.
Also some people move because the pay is higher and less taxes, and some students come here instead of quebec because they can skip “cegep” and go straight to University.
