Why does every house in Montreal seem to have a pool in their backyard

It is because it can be as hot as Hades here in the summer. We have heat waves where it gets up to +45 Celsius.Montreal is on an island and it gets terribly humid in both winter and summer, so both the heat and the cold are a lot more uncomfortable than in an environment where the air tends to be dry.

In Montreal you’ve really got to have air conditioning in your car to survive.Oftentimes in the summer it is actually hotter here than traditionally hot countries like say Jamaica or Saudi Arabia. In winter it can go down to -45 Celsius with the wind chill factor.

A lot of us love having the distinctly different seasons, but the range of 90 degrees Celsius can drive us around the bend.We do complain about the weather all the time.

You are clearly referring to the West Island (the suburbs) … … and not the Plateau (popular downtown neighbourhood) … The reason is we like to enjoy the few months of heat that we get most years.
