As long as the gun is fairly new they are pretty reliable. If they're old with lots of rounds fired thru them and worn parts they can be problematic but that holds with any machine gun. The M240, [FN MAG-58] the M60's US replacement, is probably a better gun. They'll hold up much longer then the M60.
