Why does wireless charging not work through metal?
Because the energy that the wireless charger wants to transfer to a coil inside the phone is instead being transferred to the metal back of the phone. All it can do there is induce a current into the metal, heating it up a bit. Wireless charging is, at it's most basic, just a transformer.
