It's difficult to hang decor on plaster walls.Under the strain of a power drill, they can crack and fall.This does not mean that you can't decorate your walls.Hanging on stucco without a drill is easy if you have the right materials.
Step 1: Hang objects and light frames with outdoor mounting tape.
Good quality double-sided mounting tape can be used to hang light picture frames on your wall.If you want to use double-sided tape outdoors, be sure to choose a tape that is designed for outdoor use.This will make sure that the tape stays attached to the wall.Two popular brands of tape are Scotch and Gorilla Glue.You can find mounting tape at your local hardware store.You can buy double-sided mounting tape online.
Step 2: Rub alcohol on the area.
Dust and dirt can affect how well the tape sticks to the stucco, so it is important that the surface is clean and clear.You can clean the entire area where you plan to hang something by scrubbing it with alcohol.Use a rag, sponge, or brush to clean the area.Before applying any tape, make sure the area is completely dry.
Step 3: Place strips of tape on the object you want to hang.
Attach one side of the tape to what you want to hang first, rather than applying it to the wall.Attach the object to the tape by removing the backing from one side.If you want to hold an object on the wall and distribute its weight evenly, you should use double sided tape.If you are going to hang a frame, apply the strips of tape to the corners.If you hang an odd object, make sure to use enough tape to support it and apply it to all the areas that will come in contact with the stucco.Double sided tape comes in a variety of colors, which can make concealing it easier.
Step 4: The tape should be removed and hung on the wall.
You can expose the glue that will attach to the stucco when you remove the backing from the frame or decor.Pull the backing off the paper.When you remove the backing from the tape, the sticky surface will begin to dry and lose its strength, so be sure to hang the object on the wall before you do.
Step 5: To make sure the object sticks, hold it against the stucco for 10 seconds.
Stucco is difficult to attach tape to and can be stubborn.You need to hold the object you want to hang tight against the stucco for about 10 seconds to allow the tape to grip onto the ridges.Remove the pressure against the object.You can apply pressure with your weight on the object.
Step 6: Strong hooks are designed for outdoor use.
There are hooks that can be used to hang the strips.To find out how much weight they can support, check the packaging.If you plan to hang it, you should choose one that can support it.Hanging clocks, frames, and other objects can be done with hooks.You can use multiple hooks for larger objects.If you plan to hang a painting or frame with a hanging wire, be sure to choose a hook that the wire can fit onto.If you plan to hang on stucco outdoors, make sure you get strips that are rated for outdoor use.Don't use these hooks in areas with a lot of heat or humidity.This can cause the hook to fall off.If they're not supposed to, the hooks may peel the paint off the wall when you remove them.
Step 7: Rub alcohol on the area to clean it.
It is important that the surface is ready to be applied with glue.Dirt can make it hard for the glue to stick to the stucco.Rub alcohol on the area and allow it to fully dry.
Step 8: Measure and mark where you want to put the hooks.
It is better to apply the hooks the first time than it is to remove them.You may need to use the wire backing of a painting or use multiple hooks to hang on your stucco, so make sure you apply the hooks at the right spot.To mark where you want to attach the hooks, use a pencil.Measure to make sure they are even.You can use a ruler, tape measure, or leveler to see if the hooks are on a straight and even line by holding them against the stucco.
Step 9: Attach the hooks to the stucco by removing the backing.
Attach the hooks to the places you marked.There may be specific instructions on how to adhere your hooks to stucco, so be sure to check the directions on the packaging.It is best to attach the strips correctly the first time.Press the glue firmly against the wall to attach it.You can attach the stucco with hot glue if you want a stronger hold.
Step 10: Hang your object with care.
The hooks are strong enough to hold it, but you will want to gently attach your object to the hooks so that they don't pop off of the stucco.Slowly lower the wire backing onto the hook or hooks until the frame is firmly in place.
Step 11: Hang heavy frames with wire hangers.
The lightweight wire hangers can be installed without drilling into the stucco.You should choose a wire hanger that can penetrate plaster walls.The curved steel wires can sometimes support over 100 pounds.It is easy to remove and leave a small hole behind.Hercules Hook and Monkey Hook can pierce stucco.
Step 12: You should mark where you want to place the hook.
If you plan to hang a frame with wire backing, make sure you mark where you want to put the hook.If you want to make a hole in the plaster, you have to remove the hook and do it again.Measure so that the hooks are in an even alignment so your frame doesn't lean, as larger frames may need more than one hook to support the wire backing.You can measure the hooks with a ruler or tape measure.
Step 13: Puncture the wall with the straight end of the hanger.
It may take some effort to pierce the stucco, but be careful not to crush or bend the wire hanger.You can help the wire penetrate the plaster by rotating your wrist.The wire should slide through after you pierce the stucco.The stucco can be damaged if you push the hanger in slowly.The stucco can be cracked by sudden bursts.
Step 14: The hook should be on the right side of the wall.
The wire should slide through the wall after you put the straight end of the hanger in.The hook needs to be pressed against the inside of the wall.It should go all the way to the hook.A strong hold should be provided by the hook.Make sure the hook is stable in the stucco.
Step 15: Hang the frame or object with care.
If you knock the hook sideways, it won't support any weight.Lower the object or the wire backing of the frame slowly onto the hook.If the hook is knocked out of alignment, the object will fall into place.
